East Cobb SPLOST Project List

Details of proposed school maintenance and construction work subject to Tuesday's Cobb Education sales tax referendum.

On Tuesday Cobb voters will decide whether to extend the current Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) for school maintenance and construction projects in the Cobb County School District and Marietta City Schools.

The Cobb Education SPLOST IV, if passed, would collect a penny on the dollar from Jan. 1, 2014 through Dec. 31, 2018. The Cobb County School District would receive $717.8 million and Marietta City Schools $55.4 million.

The attached PDF files, compiled by the Cobb County School District, include descriptions of the work that would be done at all schools in the Lassiter, Pope, Sprayberry, Walton and Wheeler High School districts.

Among the major projects slated for East Cobb schools are the following:

  • $39.9 million for a classroom replacement building, gymnasium and fine arts facility at Walton High School;
  • $29.1 million for a replacement for East Cobb Middle School;
  • $11.7 million for a new gym at Lassiter High School;
  • $19.3 million for a new gym and theater addition at Pope High School;
  • $17.7 million for a new gym and theater addition at Wheeler High School;
  • $3.1 million for a classroom annex replacement at Mount Bethel Elementary School;
  • $2.4 million for renovations to the physical education building at Sope Creek Elementary School;
  • $2.2 million for a classroom annex replacement at Tritt Elementary School.

Two unspecified elementary school replacements, each costing $23 million, and a new $30 milllion career academy also would be built.

Also attached is a PDF of the full Cobb SPLOST IV project list and Tuesday's sample ballot.

The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and voters will go to their usual election day polling places.

There are two precinct changes to note in East Cobb: The precinct that had been located at John Knox Presbyterian Church is now at the East Marietta Library; the precinct formerly located at the Northeast Cobb YMCA is now at Hightower Trail Middle School.
