What Should Land Next at Parkaire?

One of East Cobb's best-known shopping centers has some vacancies. What would you like to see fill them up?

Located on the site of an old airfield when East Cobb was mostly rural, Parkaire Landing Shopping Center has undergone several overhauls over the years.

The original Parkaire Mall complex was enclosed and included an ice skating rink that was popular in the 1970s, while the Atlanta Flames were playing in the National Hockey League.

The Flames left for Calgary in 1980 and Parkaire was eclipsed by other, larger malls that were opening in metro Atlanta. In 1986 Parkaire building was torn down and replaced a year by Parkaire Landing.

A Kroger store was was part of the first Parkaire complex, which contained nearly 143,000 square feet of space. Parkaire Landing is much smaller, currently with around 58,000 square feet.

The Kroger has been remodeled and in February 2010 the former Merchants Walk library branch moved in and was renamed the East Cobb Library. The Marietta Ice Center is located in a separate building behind the main edifice.

Those are the anchor features of Parkaire Landing, which includes a Ted's Montana Grill, Johnny's New York Pizza, a UPS store and a Dollar Tree store.

Other businesses include a Sakahara Sushi restaurant, a Weight Watchers location, an Enterprise Rent A Car location and more recently, La Vida Massage.

But quite a number of small store space remains available, mostly in the main building. There's only one shop, a SportClips location, between the Kroger and the library. And there's ample space between the library and the Dollar Tree.
