Mike is a product of a military family where both his parents were Army veterans.  During his formative years he lived in various military bases throughout the United States, the Orient and Middle East.  

<b><i>LEADERSHIP</i></b>

Mike was commissioned an officer in the Marine Corps in 1971 and, in a nearly 30 year career, served in a variety of operational and support assignments.  His duties took him to various bases and locations throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa.  This included Defense Attaché positions in both Turkey and Oman.  

Mike has held leadership positions in various aviation units, and was the deputy commander for a Marine Base that included Mayoral duties and responsibility. 

Mike retired with the rank of Colonel in 2001 after a distinguished military career marked by 18 military decorations, including 6 personal awards.  He was also recognized by the State Department for his role in the Kurdish Relief after the first Gulf War.  

<b><i>FISCAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE</i></b>

Mike led a Pentagon team that managed a $22 billion budget.  His Mayoral duties included leadership of 400 employees and a business with revenues of $50 million.

Mike has worked at two of the largest financial consulting companies in the United States (Booz Allen and Grant Thornton).  He was an advisor to the Macedonian and Iraqi governments on the development of their internal budgets. 

<b><i>COMMUNITY AND FAMILY</i></b>

His spiritual journey at Mt Bethel UMC includes 3 years as the Director of Men’s Ministry, a team leader or member on numerous mission trips both domestically and internationally, a volunteer in various service projects including Habitat for Humanity and disaster relief, a referee and umpire for Recreation Ministry leagues, and officer and/or discussion leader in Sunday School and Disciple classes.  While in Baghdad he was the leader for the Men’s Fellowship Group at the American Embassy compound.

His wife Judy is a native of Atlanta, a graduate of the University of Georgia, and was a flight attendant with Delta Air Lines for more than 30 years. She remains active in programs at Mt Bethel UMC and is a past officer of Delta Clipped Wings, an organization of retired Delta employees who support various community programs in the Atlanta area.    

Mike has 3 children from a former marriage.  His daughter’s family has two children and she and her husband work for Yahoo Sports.  The oldest son is a former Marine and veteran of Iraqi Freedom and his family includes one daughter.  The youngest son is employed by Computer Science Corporation of America and is working on his master’s degree in financing.   

<b><i>EDUCATION</i></b>

Mike received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame, a graduate degree in Human Resources Management from Pepperdine University and is a distinguished graduate of the Naval War College.
