The high school basketball regular season comes to an end tonight for East Cobb rivals who are having quite different seasons. The Wheeler boys can clinch the Region 5-AAAAAA regular season crown when it plays host to Walton. The game starts at 7:30 at the Doug Lipscomb Gym. The Wildcats, who were surprised by Cherokee on Tuesday, are 15-7 and 10-3 in region play, a game ahead of the Warriors, who play Milton on Friday. On the other hand, Walton is 11-11 and 4-8. Wheeler downed the Raiders 76-73 in overtime earlier this season. While the Wildcats have their usual complement of players receiving college recruiting attention -- Elijah Staley and Daniel Giddens in particular -- the Raiders are relying heavily on senior guard Rico Overall …

Walton High School hosts football scrimmages to wrap up spring practice.
Walton High School hosted its annual Spring Football Jamboree on Friday. In addition to its varsity football team, the Walton sixth, seventh, and eighth grade feeder teams, as well as the freshman and sophomore football squads participated in scrimmage games.

A few items of note from the East Cobb sporting scene.
The Walton ice hockey team took note of the next-to-last official day of winter on Friday by routing Peachtree Ridge 10-3 Friday in the Class AA playoffs of the Georgia Student Hockey League. The Raiders will play Roswell Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Ice Forum in Duluth, but need two victories in order to win the championship. If they beat the Hornets Monday, there would be a rubber match on Tuesday, also at the Ice Forum. Walton is one of two East Cobb schools fielding a club ice hockey team, along with Pope, which also is in Class AA and lost to Peachtree Ridge 6-1 on Thursday.
