Slain Officer Was Lassiter Graduate

Sean Callahan, who was killed in the line of duty this week, joined the Clayton County Police Department in August.

The funeral for a first-year Clayton County Police officer killed in the line of duty this week will take place Friday at East Cobb's Johnson Ferry Baptist Church. Sean Callahan, 24, who joined the force in August, died early Tuesday after being shot twice in the head while responding to a domestic dispute at a motel in Stockbridge on Monday afternoon. He graduated in 2006 from Lassiter High School, where he was a varsity swimmer, and also attended Mabry Middle School. A Lassiter guidance counselor told The Marietta Daily Journal that Callahan expressed to her an interest in studying criminal justice. World Notices Cobb Shooting Death

The killing of Marietta's Jameela Barnette by police has renewed interest in the hate-filled packages she admitted sending to lawmakers in April.

Usually after a police officer kills someone, the reaction focuses on whether the shooting was justified. Not in the death of Jameela Barnette. While her fatal shooting at the Bexley apartment complex Sunday morning remains under investigation by Cobb County police, even two people who said they are her siblings commented on Patch that they hold no ill will toward the officer. "I pray that the officer involved finds some type of peace with knowing he took a life out of fear for his own life," posted Patch user Bennie Barnette, who said he was the woman's brother. Cobb Officer Fatally Shoots Woman

The 53-year-old Marietta resident was assaulting the officer with a knife and handgun, a police spokesman says.

The woman killed Sunday is the woman involved in mailing the threatening packages in April, the New York Post reported. Jameela Barnette was indicted and arrested last month on federal charges related to mailing a package that was a hoax weapon of mass destruction, the Post said. A federal judge released her without posting bond, the Post added A Cobb County police officer fatally shot a woman at an apartment just outside the Marietta city limits this morning. The woman, Jameela Cecila Barnette, 53, answered a knock at a door at the Bexley apartment complex in the 300 block of Penny Lane by charging out with a knife and a handgun, police spokesman Sgt.
