Small Business Q&A: Back By Popular Demand Consignment

This year-old store at Merchant's Walk will be more than doubling in size this spring.

Back By Popular Demand Consignment store owner Melissa Baxter knows how to make money. And she does it in a win-win, fun way. Consigners turn their old clothes into cash and shoppers pay a fraction of retail prices for designer and everyday brands. Scheduled monthly events bring in new business as well as private parties where shoppers have the store to themselves and buy at a discount. In addition to her Merchant's Walk store, Baxter's consignment holdings include 8,000 square feet of retail space in Lilburn. At 30, Baxter owns a mall that is divided into two women's clothing stores. The stores had a semi-annual $1 sale yesterday. All proceeds went towards the care of a rescued German Shepherd-mix dog. "The dollar sale has grown so big …

Getting Down to Business

More Merchant's Walk Stores Opening

Verizon Wireless and The Cook's Warehouse are the newest stores to open their doors, with Seed Restaurant soon to follow.

The redeveloped Merchant's Walk Shopping Center continues to take shape. Last Thursday, officials from the Cobb Chamber of Commerce were on hand for the ribbon-cutting of a Verizon Wireless store that has been relocated from the Providence Square shopping center.  This coming Thursday, The Cook's Warehouse will open its doors next to the new Whole Foods location, with its inventory of cookware as well as classes, gadgets, equipment and services catering to home cooks and entertainers.  And in perhaps the most anticipated opening at Merchant's Walk since Whole Foods, high-profile Atlanta chef Doug Turbush will open Seed Kitchen & Bar in October after leaving the upscale Buckhead Asian restaurant Bluepointe. Grand Reopening for Kohl's at Merchant's Walk

Remodeling of East Cobb location is complete.

While plenty of new construction goes on around it, the Kohl's location at the Merchant's Walk Shopping Center has been under reconstruction. The remodeling project is complete, and all day today the department store will celebrate a Grand Reopening event. All existing Merchant's Walk stores got an exterior facelift earlier this year in preparation for the opening of a variety of stores. Marlow's Tavern, adjacent to Kohl's, began serving in January. Whole Foods, the centerpiece of the revamped retail center, will open in late July, and a Cook's Warehouse location also will open this summer.  Other new stores include Gigi's Cupcakes and a new Chipotle location, both of which are open, and Mirko Pasta, which is opening soon.  Renovations to …
