Students and staff at East Cobb's Garrison Mill Elementary School are continuing a fundraising drive this month to assist efforts by the Friends of Mabry Park. The "Money for Mabry Park" fundraiser began on March 15 and is winding down on Wednesday. The Friends organization sent out a newsletter this week saying the response has been "overwhelming" and it has "had to make deposits as the jars were overflowing!" The Friends thanked Garrison Mill 5th grade teacher Kendra Brindley for her efforts. The winning top three fundraising homerooms will win a Mabry Park Personalized Brick for a permanent recognition. And the first place homeroom gets an outdoor picnic. For more information, visit the Friends of Mabry Park website.

But development plans on hold after project taken off 2011 Cobb SPLOST list.
Cobb Commissioners will get a look Tuesday at the master plan for development of Mabry Park in northeast Cobb. The county used $4.3 million from its 2006 park bond to buy the 26.5 acres at Sandy Plains and Wesley Chapel roads in Northeast Cobb. But the county does not have the money to develop the park, or even build a road to access the property. Money for the park’s development was removed from the 2011 SPLOST when commissioners narrowed the project list. The farm was purchased from Ed and Sue Mabry Harris in May 2008, and had been in the family for more than 100 years. The park, filled with rolling green land and a shady lake, is being proposed as a green space with some amenities such as a playground, walking trails and gardens. A …
