The East Marietta Little League contingent was named the Publix "Tailgate of the Game" at the April 28 Atlanta Braves game. It's the final homestand of the season for the Braves, who also are celebrating the career of retiring third baseman Chipper Jones. Braeden Swilley of the East Marietta White Sox will be honored as the 2012 Little League "Good Sport of the Year" next month.
When the 66th Little League World Series begins next month in Williamsport, Pa., Braeden Swilley will be more than an interested onlooker. The 10-year-old catcher for the East Marietta White Sox will be honored by the global Little League Baseball and Softball organization as its 2012 Little League "Good Sport of the Year." With another season almost here, memories of our children's experiences resonate the most.
Man. I miss these late winter days with baseball tryouts and practices. My son is in college now and my daughter quit playing when she turned 10. Since then, I've been consigned to listening to guys at the gym talk about tryouts and their own youth baseball war stories. It seems so long ago that we signed Chris up for baseball at Sewell Park. That's the home of East Marietta National Little League and the 1983 Little League World Champions. I loved it! We (funny how even the parents are considered part of the team) played there for seven years. It started out with the pitching being done by machine. That was great because almost every pitch was over the plate and the kids got a chance to watch the ball come over the plate and develop a …

Nice reflection, Tim. I appreciated your use of "Keystone Cops" as it brought the visual to mind that you were trying to convey. However, your Sandy Plains experience was unfortunate. Too many youth organizations are in short supply of volunteers. It's unfortunate that this coach - experienced or not - had to be fired for simply stepping up to the plate (no pun intended).   more ›

Warner Robins reaches state Little League finals with 7-3 win.
In semifinal action at the Georgia Little League Tournament in Cartersville, the East Marietta Giants took on the Warner Robins American team. Warner Robins started the scoring off in the top of the first inning, getting a run in on a passed ball off Giants catcher MJ Sasapan. Warner Robins added three more runs in the top of the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. And that was all they needed. East Marietta had its own three-run inning in the bottom of the third, which made the score 4-3. But that was as close as the Giants would get. Warner Robins would add three more runs in the game to win it, 7-3. Warner Robins plays for the state championship Friday against Columbus, who won in the other semi-final over Madison County, 6-4. Georgia's …
