East Cobb Schools Pace New Achievement Results

Hightower Trail, Mt. Bethel and Dickerson have the best Cobb scores in the College and Career Ready Performance Index, which replaces No Child Left Behind measures.

The first test of Georgia's alternative to No Child Left Behind has yielded fairly good marks for the Cobb County School District and excellent results for a number of schools in East Cobb. According to the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), students at the elementary, middle and high school levels in the Cobb district surpassed the state average on a wide-ranging accountability spectrum. The index grades each school in the state on a 100-point scale, measuring achievement (70 points) and tracking progress points (15 points) and achievement gap points (15 points). Sixteen of the 19 schools in East Cobb (ZIP codes 30062, 30067, 30068) reached or surpassed a score of 80, and 14 schools had scores of 90 or better, led by …

Walton Parents Make SPLOST Push

The East Cobb high school would get a major overhaul totaling nearly $40 million if the March 19 referendum passes.

(Author's note: This is the first of two articles on the Walton High School SPLOST proposal. The second article will appear on East Cobb Patch Friday.) The sounds of an Aaron Copland composition waft through the lobby area of Walton High School during a late morning class period. It's a pleasant greeting for visitors, although students, staff and volunteers shuffling in and out of the main office are used to the accompaniment. The calming strains of an American symphonic master are a welcome, if momentary respite during a busy day, and are heard clearly and crisply. They couldn't possibly be coming from a classroom. Well, yes and no. Around a corner, at the entrance to the nearby fine arts hallway, several violin students are standing and …

East Cobb Students Pace Iowa Test

Mt. Bethel, Dodgen and Dickerson reported the best results in countywide figures issued Thursday.

Students in the Cobb County School District tested slightly lower overall in the most recent Iowa Test of Basic Skills from a year ago but those results remain above the national average. According to figures released Thursday by the CCSD, the composite percentile scores for third, fifth and seventh graders dropped a point at each grade level from the fall of 2011. Composite scores for Cobb fifth graders ranked in the 65th percentile and the district's seventh graders came in the 62nd percentile. Students at East Cobb schools …

Great! The overall scores have gone down, but we are still better than the average national student! If that is good news from our superintendent of schools, then we need to change the superintendent!! [“We did experience a dip in composite scores, but the more significant news from these 2012 ITBS results is that our students continue to perform very well in a national comparison," Cobb school …   more ›
