Is Our Neighborhood Turning?
Crimes seem to be increasing in volume and profile along the Powers Ferry Corridor, begging some difficult questions about the quality of life in our county.
Those of us not born in Cobb County in most cases moved here because of the quality of life, for things like efficiently delivered public services, good schools, rising property values, safe neighborhoods. One by one, those traditional Cobb pillars seem to crumble around us, as globalism, the speculative real estate boom gone bust, high unemployment and expensive foreign wars have given way to economic collapse throughout the country and right here at home. Our public services have been threatened and circumscribed by cut and flat-lined budgets; libraries and community centers cut and in some cases closed. County employees are furloughed and demoralized by a cultural climate that somehow has placed the blame for the ongoing economic …

There are countless good people and good stories in the neighborhood, Carol. That's why it pains me so to see the uptick in crime in the area. It's sad that we all have to be more careful when we go to the grocery store, because there's more of a chance we will be robbed, ripped off, or otherwise harrassed.
