Thousands Attend Business Expo at Cobb Galleria

More than 150 local businesses showcased their products and services Thursday at the Cobb Chamber Business-to-Business Expo.

More than 150 local businesses had to opportunity to showcase their products and services Thursday at the Cobb Chamber Business-to-Business Expo. The free event attracted thousands of attendees at the Cobb Galleria Centre right here in the Smyrna-Vinings area. Cobb Chamber Chairman Greg Morgan said this year's expo has been the largest one the chamber has ever held. Exhibitors included Keep it in Cobb, which encourages residents to buy local, and business associations from across the county.

Expo to Showcase Cobb Businesses

Thursday's event starts at 3 p.m. at the Cobb Galleria Centre.

Learn about some of the businesses in your own backyard, Cobb. The Cobb Business-to-Business Expo, a free event that drew more than 1,600 people in 2012, is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Thursday at the Cobb Galleria Centre. This year, the expo will feature former Atlanta Braves player Javy Lopez, who will sign autographs in the LOUD Security Systems booth. LOUD is just one of more than 150 local businesses that will showcase their products and services at the expo. Other exhibitors include Keep it in Cobb, which encourages residents to buy local. East Cobb Woman Named Chamber COO

Sharon Mason has been promoted from a membership vice president.

Sharon Mason of East Cobb is the new chief operating officer of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce. Mason, who had been a vice president for membership, is now second in command at the chamber, which has 35 employees and represents more than 2,600 business in Cobb. For the moment, Mason is working with the United 4 Kids campaign that is advocating passage of the March 19 Cobb Education SPLOST. In a profile last week in The Marietta Daily Journal, she talked about the connection between business and education. She and her family live in the Timber Ridge Elementary School area.

Infosys to Add 200 Jobs in Cobb

The information technology consulting firm already employs 350 people in the East Cobb area.

An Indian firm that specializes in information technology consulting is expanding its work force in Cobb County. At today's First Monday breakfast of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce, Infosys BPO Ltd. formally announced it would be adding 200 jobs to its current operations located in East Cobb. Infosys, based in Bangalore India, employs between 60-100 people at the Wildwood corporate complex. According to The Marietta Daily Journal, Infosys also employs 250 more people on Powers Ferry Road after purchasing McCamish Systems in 2009. The new jobs will "support the Infosys Business Process Outsourcing subsidiary" and will be added in the Cumberland Mall area, according to a report on GPB.com. Dobbins ARB to Hold Job Fair

The March 3 event is open to all military members, Department of Defense civilians and dependents.

From a press release via the Cobb Chamber of Commerce: On March 3, Dobbins Air Reserve Base will host a free job, education and veteran benefit fair open to all military members, Department of Defense civilians and dependents. The 94th Airlift Wing Human Resource and Development Council is partnering with the Community Action Information Board, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, the 94th AW Education and Training Office, and several Fortune 500 companies to aid Dobbins personnel and their families achieve success in their careers and education. “Dobbins Air Reserve Base is dedicated to our military members and their families,” said Maj. Business Plan Workshop at Cobb Chamber

Friday's event is free to the public, but you'll need to register to take part.

The Cobb Chamber of Commerce is offering a free two-hour workshop Friday morning on the fundamentals of writing a business plan. The workshop takes place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Cobb Chamber offices, located at 240 Interstate North Parkway. The "mini business plan" training will cover all the elements of writing a condensed 3- to 8-page business plan. For more information and to register, click here.

Lee to Deliver State of Cobb Address

The commission chairman will speak at a Cobb Chamber breakfast next Monday.

Cobb Commission Chairman Tim Lee will deliver the 2013 state of the county address before the Cobb Chamber of Commerce next week. The organization's First Monday breakfast starts Jan. 14 at 7:30 a.m. at the Cobb Galleria Centre, 2 Galleria Parkway. The online registration and refund deadline is this Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 12 p.m. Tickets are $25 a person for Cobb Chamber members online and $40 at the door; general admission tickets are $60 a person. Lee, a Republican from East Cobb, won a full-term as chairman last August after filling the final two years of former chairman Sam Olens' term. Lee was sworn in for his new term last month, as was District 2 commissioner Bob Ott, a Republican who serves East Cobb and the Smyrna-Vinings area. …

Cobb Young Professionals Assist CFR

The Center for Family Resources received a donation this week from the Cobb Chamber-affiliated group.

On Thursday, Jason Sleeman, 2012 Chairman of the Cobb Young Professionals presented a charitable donation to The Center for Family Resources (CFR) at the networking group’s holiday social at the Arena Tavern in Kennesaw. The donation was raised during the Cobb Young Professionals Fall Golf Tournament. “It’s easy to recognize the value that an organization like The Center for Family Resources provides for our community. I know our donation will further enhance CFR’s programs that truly empower Cobb’s families in need,” said Adam Emrich, of Georgia Power. Hallacy Is East Cobb Citizen of the Year

The Cobb Chamber's East Area Council honored the longtime civic and education activist Wednesday.

The Cobb Chamber of Commerce named Karen Hallacy the 2012 East Cobb Citizen of the Year at the East Cobb Area Council breakfast meeting at Indian Hills Country Club on Wednesday, Nov. 14.  Hallacy has been a tireless volunteer and resident in the East Cobb community since her children started school in the area more than 10 years ago. A parent in the Walton High School district, she is known in the community as an advocate for local students and public education.
