The new environmental technology program at Chattahoochee Technical College will begin for fall semester.
A new program being offered this fall at Chattahoochee Technical College's Mountain View campus will prepare students for a field that one instructor says needs more workers. The new Associate of Applied Science Degree in Environmental Technology, which will be the only two-year program in the metro Atlanta area, will train students in environmental law and ethics, field sampling and testing, hydrology, wastewater management and hazardous waste cleanup, among other things. “It’s a growing field,” said Bejie Herrin, course instructor. “There are a lot of components. Former Walton High School basketball player Chevelan Pearson has signed with Chattahoochee Tech. Pearson, who played at Wheeler for three seasons before transferring to Walton as a senior, helped lead the Raiders to the AAAAA state tournament. He will have two years of eligibility at the Marietta-based Chattahoochee Tech, which competes in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association of the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Cancellations abound as effects from winter storm could last all week.
Updated: 11:14 a.m. Tuesday A major winter storm that blanketed nearly half a foot of snow across most of north Georgia Sunday night has prompted a mass of school and business closings and event and meeting cancellations as authorities warned motorists to stay off icy roads. For a second consecutive day, classes in the Cobb County School District have been canceled for Tuesday. The same goes for a number of private schools in East Cobb that have reported closures, including Mt. Bethel Christian Academy and The Walker School. Kennesaw State University, Life University, Southern Polytechnic University and Chattahoochee Tech also have canceled Tuesday classes. Cobb County government was closed on Monday, and reopened at 10 a.m. Tuesday. …
