Start spring break in East Cobb with an eye on an active summer.
The McCleskey-East Cobb YMCA is celebrating spring and children's health with Healthy Kids Day from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the facility at 1055 E. Piedmont Rd. The family fun will include inflatables, the Atlanta Braves BAT Team and Kids Zumba. The YMCA also will offer free swim assessments. Drowning is the No. 2 cause of accidental death. More than 1,900 YMCAs across the country are taking part in Healthy Kids Day, an initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids. Healthy Kids Day is filled with active play and educational activities that will help parents improve their kids’ lifestyles for the long term. McCleskey-East Cobb Family YMCA and East Cobber magazine teamed up for last Sunday's Health and Wellness Expo.
Exactly one week before Easter, scores of families took advantage of the perfect spring weather Sunday to enjoy Healthy Kids Day held at the McCleskey-East Cobb Family YMCA. The event included a Health & Wellness Expo organized by East Cobber magazine. New equipment, new activities and a fee-reducing member-referral program are among the New Year's highlights at the East Cobb and Northeast Cobb Y.
Less is more—yet more is more—as the two local YMCA locations reduce membership dues through a referral program, install dozens of new exercise machines and increase the frequency of their most popular classes for the new year. With the Shrink Your Dues member-referral program, the McCleskey Family East Cobb YMCA and the Northeast Cobb Family YMCA hope to offer members a way to cut their monthly dues by as much as 20 percent, pushing fees back to decade-old lows. According to YMCA Executive Director Becky Shipley, if existing members refer family or friends to the Y, both the new and current card carriers will receive reduced monthly rates.
