Walton Grad Reaches USC Runoff
Kenny Tracy wins a three-way race for South Carolina's student government president but falls short of a majority.
A Walton High alumnus finished first in voting for the University of South Carolina student government president and advanced to a runoff next week. Kenny Tracy, an East Cobb junior majoring in sport and entertainment management with a minor in political science, received 40.9 percent of the vote in the online student election Tuesday and Wednesday, The Daily Gamecock reported. He’ll face Vice President Emily Saleeby, who got 34.6 percent, in the runoff. But Tracy almost was eliminated Wednesday night despite finishing first in the three-candidate race. Walton Alum Gives No. 1 Team a Scare
J.J. Jackson's rushing helps Tennessee-Chattanooga nearly upset Georgia Southern.
Walton alumnus J.J. Jackson had the best game of his junior season Saturday for Tennessee-Chattanooga. The backup running back ran for 56 yards on 11 carries, both season highs, including a 20-yard run for his first touchdown of the season and fourth of his college career as the Moccasins lost on the road to top-ranked Georgia Southern in Statesboro, 28-27. Jackson also caught a pass for six more yards as Chattanooga, ranked 23rd in the country in the Football Championship Subdivision of Division I heading into the game, staged a furious second-half comeback but lost on a failed two-point conversion with less than two minutes left in the game, the Chattanooga Times Free Press reported.
