Should Price Run for U.S. Senate?

The East Cobb-area Congressman has been mentioned as a candidate to succeed retiring Saxby Chambliss.

Friday's announcement by U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss that he won't be running for a third term in 2014 has fueled further speculation about who might be vying for his seat. But even before the Georgia Republican said he was stepping down, U.S. Rep. Tom Price has been thought to be mulling a campaign. Price, a Roswell Republican who represents East Cobb and Northeast Cobb in the Sixth District of Georgia, hasn't made any formal public comment since Friday. The Washington website Politico quoted a Price spokesman Friday afternoon saying that the Congressman "is speaking with a number of folks from across the state of Georgia" as he weighs a possible bid for the office. The day before Chambliss' announcement, Price wouldn't comment to MSNBC's …

I also have met Tom Price. He came to both of my sons' Eagle ceremonies. He is a gentleman and a true professional. We need more doctors and fewer lawyers in the legislative branch!   more ›

Price to Speak at Roswell Breakfast

The Republican will be in North Fulton on Jan. 29 to talk business and government at the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce's Eggs & Enterprise Breakfast.

Rep. Tom Price will speak at the next Eggs & Enterprise Breakfast on Tuesday, Jan. 29, a little more than a week after the inauguration of President Barack Obama. The Sixth District Republican from Roswell, whose district includes East Cobb, makes his appearance as Congress begins its next debate with the President – and each other – over the debt ceiling. State Sen. Brandon Beach, R-Alpharetta, who also is president and CEO of the North Fulton Chamber, announced in a news release that Price will be the keynote speaker at the breakfast being held at the Country Club of Roswell. Eggs & Enterprise Breakfast Beach's release calls Price a vibrant leader in Georgia and a diligent and tireless problem solver in Congress. He was first elected to …

Price Votes Against Fiscal Cliff Deal

Like many Republicans, the East Cobb-area Congressman did not agree with the compromise.

Conservative Rep. Tom Price (R-District 6) voted against the last-minute fiscal cliff deal passed by Congress over New Year's, according to govtrack.us. A real solution includes both revenue increases and spending reductions," Price recently said on CNN's "State of the Union." His district includes East Cobb. Price isn't the only member of Congress - especially among the GOP - to believe the compromise was ill-fitted to the need and will only lead to more hard decisions soon. The deal raises taxes on individual incomes over $400,000 and over $450,00 for household incomes and a portion of estates more than $5 million. The compromise is said to allow Congress to have more time to work on government spending.

East Cobb State of the Union Reaction

Local elected Republican officials take issue with President Obama's address. What do you think?

After President Obama's State of the Union address Tuesday night, prominent elected officials representing East Cobb issued sharp responses to the speech.  U.S. Rep. Tom Price (R-Roswell), whose 6th District includes East Cobb and who is chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee, said the president refused to admit "that the policies of the past three years have delivered an underwhelming record of economic growth and job creation, and show an interest in changing direction and uniting, not dividing the nation."  East Cobb resident and Republican U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson struck a similar tone: "Real ‘fairness’ would be government doing what American families have had to do: sit around the kitchen table, prioritize spending, get …

Why should anyone be paying more than 15% in taxes? What is your effective tax rate? Unless you make over $150k, I doubt you actually pay a higher tax rate than 15%. Earned income tax rates get lowered by exemptions and right-offs. Making higher capital gains taxes hurts all investors. If you're not an investor, then you most likely live paycheck to paycheck. I may not have much invested, but …   more ›

Price: SOPA Not 'Going Anywhere'

East Cobb-area Congressman says that controversial anti-piracy legislation is also causing "confusion" for small businesses and entrepreneurs.

As Wikipedia and other websites observed a 24-hour blackout on Wednesday, Congressional phone lines and inboxes began lighting up and filling up.  Members of the U.S. House and Senate got the message about controversial anti-piracy legislation that appears to be stalled for now.  In a battle that's been framed as Hollywood v. Silicon Valley, support was fading on Wednesday for passage of the Stop Online Piracy Act and the Protect IP Act.  That's because of intense pressure from Wikipedia, Google and other online companies and interest groups, which believe the bills will censor free speech on the Internet and harshly punish those who violate copyright infringement and other intellectual property and content laws.  Rep. Tom Price (R-Roswell…

I like this piece. When it comes to controversial issues, politicians like to play both sides. For example, on the matter of torture they denounce the use of torture (which is against the law) but are for enhanced interrogation techniques (what a great grinchy lie). This article exposes Price's attempt at straddling the fence. Bravo to the Patch!   more ›

Georgia Seeks Redistricting Approval

Rep. Tom Price's 6th district would still include East Cobb but features major changes under the proposed redrawing.

Georgia has filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, seeking federal approval of the newly drawn state legislative and congressional redistricting plans. Under the federal Voting Rights Act, Georgia must receive approval from the Justice Department or the D.C.-based federal court before any changes in election law are put into effect. This is the first redistricting process since Republicans took control of the state government. However, this is not the first time the state has chosen to go first to court, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Ten years ago, Democrats tried the same tactic to get around a Republican Justice Department. The courts tossed out much of the Democrats' plan. If the maps are …
