East Cobb’s Paper Mill Village is hosting Food Truck Monday once again on Monday, April 29. Happy Belly, WOW, Snap Franks, Yumbii, Fry Guy, Mighty Meatballs, Honeysuckle, King of Pops and Paper Mill Village’s Sugar Benders will have tasty food and treats available for purchase from 5-8 p.m. The Neighbors will perform live entertainment and Temple Kol Emeth will be accepting donations for Habitat for Humanity of Northwest Metro Atlanta. Paper Mill Village is located at 137 Johnson Ferry Road, at the intersection of Paper Mill Road.

An announcement from Temple Kol Emeth: One of the funniest rabbis in the business is coming to Cobb County to help Temple Kol Emeth celebrate three of its favorite members. Rabbi Bob Alper, who touts himself as the only practicing clergyman intentionally doing stand-up comedy, will return to the Atlanta area to perform at the East Cobb synagogue Saturday night, April 20, in a show whose proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity. Rabbi Alper has done stand-up comedy for more than a quarter-century and has appeared on Showtime, CNN, the BBC and “Good Morning America” and at the Montreal Comedy Festival. Hanukkah observances continue with events at Fountains of Olde Towne and Temple Kol Emeth this week.
Hanukkah, the eight-day festival of light, began on Saturday, and two Menorah lighting events in East Cobb will take place this week. On Tuesday, Chabad of Cobb will present "Light Up the Night" and "A Taste of Chanukah" starting at 6:30 p.m. the Fountains of Olde Town Shopping Center, 736 Johnson Ferry Road. The event includes the lighting of what's claimed to be the tallest menorah in the metro Atlanta area, as well as samples of Hannukah food favorites. On Wednesday, Temple Kol Emeth will have a menorah lighting, along with Israeli dancing, storytelling and crafts and food. That event begins at 6:45 p.m. at the synagogue, 1415 Old Canton Road.

The eighth annual Thanksgiving Ecumenical Celebration at Temple Kol Emeth will focus its community spotlight on MUST Ministries. The service takes place on Thursday, Nov. 15, starting at 7 p.m. The synagogue is located at 1415 Old Canton Road, at the intersection of Sewell Mill Road in East Cobb. Started by TKE Rabbi Steven Lebow in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2011 attacks, the service aims to bring together people from Jewish, Christian, Muslim and other traditions with scripture readings, song and in giving thanks. Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year in Jewish religion and culture. It is also referred to as the “Day of Atonement,” and the tradition is to solemnly fast for repentance and atonement of sins. Yom Kippur marks the end of the annual High Holy Day period (Sept. 16 to Oct. 8 in 2012), which begins with Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. According to the Jewish calendar, a holiday begins at sunset on the previous night. Today, observing Jews will celebrate Yom Kippur at sunset. All three East Cobb synagogues will be holding Yom Kippur services: Temple Kol Emeth, Congregation Etz Chaim and Chabad of Cobb.
