Sope Creek Bridge Project Nears

Lane closures on Paper Mill Road continue this week; replacement work begins May 28.

Preparations continue this week for the replacement of the Sope Creek Bridge on Paper Mill Road. Starting next Tuesday, May 28, East Cobb motorists will not be able to use that portion of the road for around four months, including the start of the 2013-14 school year. The $1.4 million project will include a complete replacement of the aging bridge and the construction of a six-foot-wide sidewalk on the south side of Paper Mill Road for access to National Park Service trails. This week utility work continues on Paper Mill Road near the bridge. Occasional lane closures will be in effect from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. East Cobb Road Work Update

Initial utility work begins Monday for the Sope Creek bridge replacement project on Paper Mill Road.

The following information has been provided by the office of District 2 Cobb Commissioner Bob Ott: Lower Roswell Road Construction Little Willeo Road Sidewalks Construction May 2013 Paper Mill Road Bridge Replacement I-285 Top-End Resurfacing Project - GDOT Georgia DOT continues working on a $56 million resurfacing project on I-285. Crews will resurface 10 miles of I-285 between Paces Ferry Road in Cobb County and Ashford Dunwoody Road in DeKalb County. Most work will take place nights and weekends. East Cobb Road Work Update

Construction and repairs will continue along Lower Roswell and Little Willeo roads next week.

From the office of District 2 Cobb Commissioner Bob Ott: Lower Roswell Road Construction Little Willeo Road Sidewalks Construction May 2013 Paper Mill Road Bridge Replacement In May, Cobb County DOT will begin work on replacing the bridge and adding a pedestrian bridge over Sope Creek on Paper Mill Road. The new bridge will include a six foot sidewalk on the south side, providing access to the National Park Service trails. This project will result in closing Paper Mill Road at the bridge for approximately four months beginning once school breaks for the summer. Sope Creek Bridge Plans Unveiled

East Cobb residents got their first detailed look Tuesday night at plans to replace the aging Paper Mill Road bridge over Sope Creek. The four-month project, which will begin the day after school lets out in May, will cost $1.4 million from leftover 2005 SPLOST funds but is necessary, East Cobb Commissioner Bob Ott said during a town hall meeting at Sope Creek Elementary School. The new bridge will feature an earth tone-colored stone veneer to blend in with the environment, replacing concrete piers planted in the creekbed. The replacement will be wider and will include a sidewalk, which doesn't exist now. "The bridge is safe right now, but it needs to be rebuilt," Ott said to a gathering of more than 100 citizens. Paper Mill Road Closed at Sope Creek Bridge

The bridge will be closed from 4 p.m. Friday and through the weekend for repairs to the foundation.

The Cobb County Department of Transportation is closing Paper Mill Road at the Sope Creek bridge all this weekend to make repairs to the bridge foundation.  The area will be closed to traffic starting at 4 p.m. Friday, with the closure lasting through the weekend and "possibly into early next week" as crews repair foundation damage caused by recent storms, according to a release issued by Cobb DOT. The best detours for traffic to and from Lower Roswell Road and Johnson Ferry Road are Shadowlawn Road, which is west of the bridge, and Woodlawn Drive, which is east of the affected area.  Cobb DOT said it would issue an alert to the public when the repairs are finished and Paper Mill Road traffic is re-opened at the bridge.  Cobb Police will …

Paper Mill Road Work at Sope Creek ES

A school construction project will affect traffic during daytime hours this week.

A construction project at Sope Creek Elementary School will affect traffic on Paper Mill Road this week.  Intermittent lane closures will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, as utility contractors will be relocating facilities. Other scheduled traffic interruptions this week include the following closures in connection with ongoing improvements on Lower Roswell Road, east of Johnson Ferry Road:
