MBCA Choir Earns Superior Honors

The 4th and 5th graders received the high rating recently from the Georgia Music Educators Association.

Mt. Bethel Christian Academy’s 4th and 5th grade Eagle Choir received Superior Ratings in all areas of adjudication for the Georgia Music Educators Association District XII Large Group Performance Evaluation on Feb. 28. The thirty member choir was judged on tone, pitch, rhythm, ensemble, diction, interpretation, and appearance. The students performed two songs: “Kyrie Eleison,” sung in Greek, by Sonja Poorman and a spiritual, “Marchin’ With the Saints,” by Greg Gilpin.  Each choir member will receive a medal and the school will receive a plaque honoring their achievements.   “I am proud of the students’ hard work and their commitment to the choir,” said Karen Poe, MBCA’s Lower School Music Director. “The students practiced after school in …

Mt. Bethel Students Start Anti-Hunger Drive

The East Cobb Christian school set a goal of packing 100,000 meals in its "You Fed Me" initiative on Friday.

From a press release: Mt. Bethel Christian Academy has launched a new service initiative called “You Fed Me,” with an ambitious goal to pack 100,000 meals for hungry children in one day.   Under the direction of Stop Hunger Now, an international hunger relief agency, the East Cobb school, with students in grades kindergarten through eighth, began engaging every student packing meals along side faculty, staff and 75 parent and grandparent volunteers on Friday. “Our community will be assembling 100,000 nutritious, potentially life-saving meals for hungry children around the world,” said Jim Callis, Mt. Mt. Bethel Delivers Backpack Blessings

Middle school students from the Christian Academy are reaching out to Fair Oaks Elementary School.

Mt. Bethel Christian Academy’s Middle School students met with Ben Hornsby, Director of the Men’s Ministry at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, to learn about the church’s Backpack Blessings Ministry and to see how they could help.  Every Friday, the ministry gives 200 backpacks to students who qualify for the federal free and reduced price meal program at Fair Oaks Elementary School in Marietta. After meeting with Hornsby, the MBCA Middle School students and staff set a goal to raise $300 and donate food items. “The middle school students, families and staff exceeded many expectations by raising $2,177 and bringing 4,251 food items to school for the Backpack Blessings Ministry,” said Jim Callis, Mt. Mt. Bethel Selects Honors Officers

Four students have been named to lead the Christian Academy's chapter in the National Junior Honor Society.

The National Junior Honor Society is one of the nation’s premier organizations established to recognize outstanding middle school students. The NJHS honors students who demonstrate excellence in scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. Mt. Bethel Christian Academy has 31 seventh and eighth graders in its chapter.  The members of Mt. Bethel Christian Academy’s NJHS recently selected officers for the 2012-2013 school year.  Pictured left to right are: Aline O’Neill, President (8th grade); Jacqueline Lewis, Vice President (8th grade); Haley Gamis, Secretary (7th grade); and Julia Ann Claeys, Chaplain (8th grade).

Holiday Lights at East Cobb Park

On Sunday East Cobb Park played host to its annual Christmas tree lighting event, complete with music and a visit from Santa Claus.

East Cobbers happily braved chilly dusk temperatures Sunday to welcome in the Christmas season with the Holiday Lights event at East Cobb Park.  The spirit of the season was ushered in with a community touch, as this video presentation illustrates, with an emphasis on the excitement of youngsters.  Santa Claus made his appearance and a 40-foot-high tree park was lighted, preceded by a variety of music, including selections from the Mt. Bethel Christian Academy Eagle Choir.
