A two-car collision in the Smyrna area late Christmas Eve took the life of a Marietta woman and sent four other people to the hospital with minor injuries. Cobb Police said Luca Kostic, 46, was dead on the scene after the car in which she was riding was struck by another car on Smyrna Powder Springs Road. Police said poor weather conditions, including very dense fog, contributed to the accident. Visit Smyrna-Vinings Patch for more on this story. A total of 13 people have died in holiday traffic accidents since Friday, according to the Georgia State Patrol. The holiday travel period ends at midnight Tuesday.

Custer Park, the City of Marietta's latest major project generated by the 2009 parks bond, is well underway and scheduled for completion in September. The park, which once included facilities for baseball, is being converted to a soccer complex. The new facility will include two full-size lighted soccer fields supported by parking and a concession/restroom building. The McCleskey/Northeast Cobb YMCA will manage the park, and Marietta residents will have the opportunity to participate at a reduced rate in any of the programs operated by the YMCA at the facility. The public is invited to celebrate July 4th from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with an Independence Day parade and celebration on Marietta Square. The Fourth in the Park Festival includes free concerts, an arts and crafts show, food, carnival games and a fireworks finale. Stage in Glover Park City of Marietta administrative offices will be closed on July 4 in observance of the holiday. Rep. John Carson this week celebrated General Assembly passage of the first legislation he introduced in the state House, H.B. 1089. The bill is only three sentences, but it will save Cobb County taxpayers $100,000 to $300,000 a year, according to a news release from the House press office. The House passed the bill March 7, 150-18, and the Senate followed suit Tuesday, 48-4. “I am pleased that my colleagues in the House and Senate showed overwhelming bipartisan support for this measure,” Carson said in the news release. Once signed by Gov. A 21-year-old Marietta man was hit by a car while crossing Roswell Road at North Marietta Parkway Tuesday night, 11 Alive and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution report. Kevin Donelson was hit by a southbound Hyundai Sonata driven by Kwon Young, 53, 11 Alive and The AJC report. Donelson was in a crosswalk but did not have the right-of-way. He was taken to Kennestone Hospital and was in critical condition Wednesday morning. Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the accident, 11 Alive and The AJC report. The people on the electric co-op's ballot outnumbered the potential voters at this week's forum in East Cobb.
Candidates for the Cobb EMC board of directors agreed Tuesday night that the electric utility needs to enter a new era of openness and integrity. But the 22 candidates outnumbered the potential voters at the forum the Cobb Alliance for Smart Energy sponsored at the Mountain View Community Center.
