The public is invited to comment on the draft plan that includes transportation and connectivity improvements, land use changes, a multi-use trail and a new university center.
Students, faculty and alumni of Life University and Southern Polytechnic State University, residents and business and property owners are invited to comment on the draft plan for the Marietta University Enhancement Livable Centers Initiative study area. Attendees will have an opportunity to review recommendations for transportation and connectivity improvements, land use changes, a multi-use trail and a new university center. The purpose of the study is to create a redevelopment plan for Cobb Parkway and South Marietta Parkway, increase visibility of Life and Southern Polytechnic State universities, and better connect the universities with the surrounding community. Dr. Sid Williams, the founder of Marietta's Life University, has died. The Marietta Daily Journal reported Thursday that Williams, who suffered a stroke late last year, passed away this morning, and that in lieu of flowers, donations should be made to The B. J. Palmer Historic Home Foundation. Funeral arrangements were to be announced. Williams, who was 84, transformed the institution he founded as Life Chiropractic School on Barclay Drive in Marietta into the fully-fledged Life University, enrolling at its peak nearly 3,500 students in the 1990s. While it remains the largest chiropractic school in the world, offering a doctorate degree in the field, Life also offers a master's degrees in health sciences, as well as undergraduate programs …

Cancellations for Wednesday and beyond are announced as many Cobb roads remain treacherous.
With the prospect of an extended paralysis because of Sunday's major winter storm, Cobb schools, government authorities and law enforcement are bracing for a recovery that may go into the weekend. Cobb public schools will be closed Wednesday for the third consecutive day, along with East Cobb private schools, including Mount Bethel Christian Academy and The Walker School. Cancellations abound as effects from winter storm could last all week.
Updated: 11:14 a.m. Tuesday A major winter storm that blanketed nearly half a foot of snow across most of north Georgia Sunday night has prompted a mass of school and business closings and event and meeting cancellations as authorities warned motorists to stay off icy roads. For a second consecutive day, classes in the Cobb County School District have been canceled for Tuesday. The same goes for a number of private schools in East Cobb that have reported closures, including Mt. Bethel Christian Academy and The Walker School. Kennesaw State University, Life University, Southern Polytechnic University and Chattahoochee Tech also have canceled Tuesday classes.
