Lassiter's Cobb Hobbler Run Postponed

Saturday's event has been pushed back to May 4 due to weather.

This Saturday's Cobb Hobbler Road Race at Lassiter High School has been postponed because of the cold and wet weather forecast for the weekend. A message on the Lassiter athletic Twitter feed said the 10K/5K/Fun Run was bein rescheduled for Saturday, May 4. Packet pickup is May 3 at the Lassiter ticket booth from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. For more information and to register please visit the Cobb Hobbler website.

Lassiter Boys Top Prep Soccer Poll

The Lady Trojans also are ranked in the first Score Atlanta poll of the season.

Both varsity soccer teams from Lassiter High School are off to fast starts this season, and they've been rewarded with state rankings as a result. In the first Score Atlanta poll of the season, and published Monday by the AJC, the Lassiter boys are ranked No. 1 in Class AAAAAA, and the Lassiter girls are ranked No. 8. No other soccer teams from the East Cobb area are ranked this week. The Lassiter boys are 8-0-0 on the season and had given up only four goals before Tuesday's game at Cherokee The Lassiter girls are 5-2-1, playing to a scoreless tie against Pope and their losses were to Cobb rivals Hillgrove and Harrison. Cobb Hobbler Race at Lassiter is March 23

Registration is underway for the 10K, 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run to celebrate the start of spring.

The Lassiter High School community once again will kick off spring with the 2013 edition of the Cobb Hobbler Road Race on March 23. Registration is continuing for 10/5K/Fun Run and will be available on the day of the event, which  begins and ends at the Frank Fillman Stadium. The run begins at 7 a.m. and the course continues around the Lassiter area. The cost is $40 a person for the 10K, $30 for the 5K and $19 for the one-mile fun run. Region 5-AAAAAA Basketball Tips Off

The Lassiter, Walton and Wheeler boys and girls teams are competing at Roswell High School this week.

No East Cobb-area teams are scheduled for the first day of the Region 5-AAAAAA basketball tournament that gets underway tonight. But all three girls teams will be in action Tuesday with spots in the Georgia High School Association state tournament on the line. Teams reaching the region semifinals will automatically advance to the state tournament. The boys get underway on Wednesday, with Wheeler as the top seed. All games will be played at Roswell High School, located at 11595 King Road. Lassiter to Hold College Fair

East Cobb high school students can meet with college representatives at Tuesday's event.

Thanks to Wheeler High School professional school counselor Kristin Schloemer Bryant for sending along this reminder of next Tuesday's QUEST East College Fair at Lassiter High School: QUEST East College Fair is the annual college fair hosted by Kell, Lassiter, Pope, Sprayberry and Wheeler high schools. This year’s fair will take place Tuesday, Feb. 12 from 6:30-8pm at Lassiter High School. Over 80 different colleges, universities and post-secondary options will be present. This is a great event for the whole family and anyone is invited to attend. See the attached PDFs for an informational flyer and an alphabetical listing of schools that will be represented at the fair.

Lassiter National Signing Day Photos

Several Trojan athletes formally accepted college scholarship offers Wednesday.

Several Lassiter High School, athletes signed national letters of intent with top universities on Wednesday, including the University of Tennessee, the University of Georgia, and the University of Missouri. The Trojans won the 5AAAAAA region football championship and have nine students going to eight different schools, including Eddie Printz to Missouri and Ryan Jenkins to Tennessee. The other football players on National Signing Day included: Lassiter's Cobb County 2012 cross country athlete of the year, Morgan Ainslie, will be running for the University of Georgia on both the cross country and track and field teams. ASO Musicians to Visit Lassiter

The long-promised joint performance has been scheduled for Feb. 19 and will include students from Walton High School.

After a controversy involving the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra last summer, chorus members from two East Cobb high schools will finally get to perform with the pros. The Marietta Daily Journal reported this week that ASO musicians will perform with students from Lassiter High School and Walton High School on Feb. 19. The concert begins at 7:30 in the new performing arts center at Lassiter, and will feature the work of Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart and others, according to the MDJ story, which also reported that proceeds will benefit the Lassiter and Walton choral booster clubs. Walton Sweeps Cobb Swim Titles

Both Raiders teams edged Lassiter in Saturday's meet at the Mountain View Aquatic Center.

Walton High School's swimming teams knew their toughest competition in the Cobb County Championships was going to be East Cobb rival Lassiter. But the Raiders' boys easily outraced the runner-up Trojans by 37 points Saturday in claiming a county title at the Mountain View Aquatic Center. On the girls' side was the most notable news. Not only did Walton clip Lassiter by 28 points, but the Lady Raiders won their first Cobb title since 2008. Walton has been the only school other than Lassiter to win the girls' title in the last 14 years. In the most recent Georgia high school swimming poll, published by Score Atlanta, the Walton boys were third and Lassiter was fourth in Class AAAAAA. Retiring Lassiter Coach Wins Home Finale

Steve Day is stepping down after 31 seasons in charge of the Trojans' varsity wrestling team.

After 31 successful seasons, Lassiter High School wrestling Coach Steve Day led his final home meet earlier this week. The Trojan wrestling team sent Day out with a tight victory over Centennial, winning 37-36 in a dual meet. Day leaves quite a legacy, having seen more than 350 dual wins, five region titles, 13 individual state champions and over 75 state-placers. Day was profiled by The Marietta Daily Journal earlier in January when he announced his retirement due to health reasons. He will continue to teach at Lassiter. The Trojans will participate in the final stretch of the Georgia high school traditional wrestling schedule, starting with the Region 5-AAAAAA championships next weekend at Wheeler.
