For the fourth year in a row, Pope wins the Cobb County Invitational wrestling tournament.
Pope’s Greyhounds hit the grand slam Saturday, running away with the U.S. Army Cobb County Invitational title at Sprayberry High School for the fourth straight year. As a practical matter, the wrestling tournament doesn’t carry the importance that the region or state meet does, but Pope coach Jim Haskin still points to it every year. With 209.5 points, the Greyhounds won handily, outdistancing runnerup Kell (153) and No. 3 Harrison (144), despite a bad night in the finals. They really wrestled well, and three of them won.” As if the Greyhounds, top-seeded in their half of the bracket, didn’t have enough advantage, their first-round bye allowed them to wait on the Spartans, who survived some early troubles to defeat Osborne 57-21 in the opening round. Fired up before its home crowd and well-rested, Pope …
