Here's what you should know to start Sept. 21 in East Cobb.

1. It will be wet and warmer today, the National Weather Service says. Light rain is likely throughout the overcast day, and thunderstorms are possible. There’s a 20 percent chance of more rain tonight. The high will be about 81, and the overnight low will be around 64. 2. The special election in state House District 43 followed predictions Tuesday as John Carson and Robert Lamutt advanced to a runoff Oct. 18 by splitting 1,500 of the 2,248 votes cast, according to unofficial but complete results. Here's what you should know to start Sept. 20 in East Cobb.

1. Rain is likely today, the National Weather Service says, with an 80 percent chance of showers, including thunderstorms after 2 p.m. The high will be about 74. More rain is likely tonight, when the low will be around 65. There’s a good chance of rain each day through Friday. 2. Although we can use the rain, this is an unfortunate day for it because it’s Election Day in part of East Cobb. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the special election to fill the 43rd District seat of state Rep. Bobby Franklin, who died in July. Candidate Q&A: Roy C. Barnes

This is the first in a series of profiles of the hopefuls for the Sept. 20 special election to fill the state House District 43 seat.

Roy C. Barnes tells a story from 1932, when he was just a toddler traveling with his parents in the Northeast. The family was stopped and held for a time by police, who mistakenly thought Barnes was the kidnapped son of famous aviator Charles Lindbergh and his wife, Anne Morrow Lindbergh. The Lindbergh child had been abducted days earlier in New Jersey. Barnes is 81 years old now and is one of five candidates running in a special election for the Georgia House District 43 seat, held for 15 years by Rep. Bobby Franklin, who died in July. The election for the Northeast Cobb County seat is Tuesday, Sept. 20.  If a runoff is needed, it will be held Tuesday, Oct. 18. The winner will represent the 43rd District in the 2012 legislative session. …
