For third year in a row, Walton High School has won a Georgia High School Association volleyball championship. And for the second time in as many years, the Lady Raiders defeated Harrison to win the trophy. Walton defeated the Lady Hoyas 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 25-11 in Monday's Class AAAAAA title match at McEachern High School. And as The Marietta Daily Journal reports, Walton got a stellar performance from a player bouncing back from an injury. Chloe Cook had been out for three weeks with a sprained ankle, but was cleared right before the final, and her inspired play helped Walton prevail. The Lady Raiders finished the season with a 49-7 record. Harrison's win in Game 2 of the finals was the only game Walton lost in the post-season.

Walton High School's bid to repeat as the Georgia High School Association state volleyball champion continues today in the Class AAAAAA semifinals. The Lady Raiders will meet North Cobb at 7:30 p.m. in a match to be played at Chattahoochee High School in North Fulton. The match guarantees at least one Cobb team in next Monday's championship match at McEachern High School. In the other semifinal tonight, Johns Creek faces Harrison. The bracket also sets up the possibility of a rematch of last year's championship match, won by Walton over Harrison. The Lady Raiders (32-7) defeated Chattahoochee on Saturday in the quarterfinals. North Cobb (35-14) advanced by beating Mill Creek.

There's no place like home in the post-season, and the volleyball teams from Pope, Walton and The Walker School are hoping to use that advantage as they play host to state playoff matches tonight. Pope (41-8), ranked No. 3 in Class AAAAAA, gets a visit from No. 2 McIntosh while Walton (30-7), entertains Shiloh in Class AAAAAA. Both Pope and Walton are aiming to defend their state championships. In Class A, Walker (32-7), which plays host to Savannah Country Day, was eliminated in the second round last season. The Marietta Daily Journal has more preview information on today's matches. The Georgia High School Association has brackets for all classifications.

The Lady Raiders claim their second consecutive AAAAA state volleyball championship.
The Walton Lady Raiders successfully defended their AAAAA volleyball title Saturday, defeating cross-Cobb challenger Harrison in a thrilling five-set match, 25-19, 20-25, 25-19, 21-25, 15-9. Walton hadn’t lost a set during a 10-match winning streak leading to the Georgia High School Association championship finale at Marietta High School, and the Raiders hadn’t lost a set to a Georgia team since a 3-2 victory Sept. 1 over Pope, which won the AAAA state title on the same court earlier Saturday. But although Walton brought the No. 1 seed and the 2010 AAAAA title into Saturday’s match, Harrison held the top ranking in the Prep Country/GACA coaches poll, and the Lady Hoyas came close to proving that poll correct. Harrison led 15-10 in the …
The Lady Greyhounds defeat Whitewater, 3-1, to win the AAAA state championship.
Pope ended the volleyball season Saturday afternoon the same way it finished the past two seasons—as Georgia champions. The Lady Greyhounds defeated Whitewater in four sets, 25-21, 25-27, 25-20, 25-13, to win the Georgia High School Association's AAAA state title before a raucous, costumed crowd at Marietta High School. The win might have seemed inevitable for Pope, which hadn't lost so much as a set in its previous 22 matches, carried a 27-match winning streak into the season finale, and captured the AAAA title in 2010 and the AAAAA championship in 2009. But Whitewater, with only three seniors, put more than a scare into a team packed with championship experience. The Lady Greyhounds looked as if they would cruise to a championship when …

Pope and Walton are each one win from repeating their volleyball state championships after 3-0 Final Four victories Wednesday. The Lady Greyhounds, who won the AAAA title last year and the AAAAA title in 2009, had trouble with semifinal foe McIntosh by their elite standards, the Marietta Daily Journal reported: Pope actually trailed in the second set, 22-19, during the match at Mount Zion High in Jonesboro. But Pope won the next six points to avoid losing its first set of the Georgia High School Association playoffs and advanced to the championship match with a 25-13, 25-22, 25-15 win. The top-seeded Lady Greyhounds are now 42-2 and have a 27-match winning streak. They will play third-seeded Whitewater, a 3-2 winner over Chattahoochee, in …

Neither Walton nor Pope has dropped a single set while rolling through the first three rounds of the Georgia High School Association volleyball playoffs. In the AAAAA state playoffs, top-seeded Walton's latest victory came at home Saturday against East Coweta. The Lady Raiders won 25-11, 25-8, 25-10. Eighth-seeded East Coweta was simply overmatched by the defending AAAAA champions, the Newnan Times-Herald reported. Awaiting Walton, now 26-8, in the state semifinals is No. 4 seed Roswell, which beat Lassiter, 3-2, on Saturday. The teams will play at Parkview High in Lilburn on Wednesday; the other semifinal that night pits Harrison against North Cobb. Pope was just as dominant in the quarterfinals of the AAAA state playoffs, crushing eighth…

Pope is the last East Cobb Patch school standing in the Georgia High School Association softball tournaments, and the Lady Greyhounds face a must-win road game at 2 p.m. today. Pope plays at Northwest Whitfield in the final game of their best-of-three second-round AAAA series. The Lady Greyhounds won the first game on the road Thursday, 4-3, but lost the second, 9-1, the Dalton Daily Citizen reported. The winner today gets a berth in the eight-team, double-elimination championship tournament in Columbus, starting Thursday against Ola. The loser is done for the season. Also advancing to Columbus in AAAA are Union Grove, Madison County, Northgate, Paulding County, Whitewater and Loganville. Madison County earned its place in the Elite Eight …
