The 6th Annual Cobb County School District Helen Ruffing Reading Bowl takes place on Saturday, and East Cobb schools will be well-represented. The fast-paced academic competition, which uses a game show-style buzzer system to answer questions about books, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at McEachern High School. The following schools will be represented: The competition is preceded by a parade of schools. The top two winning teams from each level advance to next level. The state competition takes place in March.
Three elementary and two middle schools will participate in Saturday's event at McEachern High School.

Students from several East Cobb schools will be participating in the Cobb County School District's Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl on Saturday. Representing East Cobb will be Brumby, Shallowford Falls and Tritt elementary schools, and Dodgen and Hightower Trail middle schools. Mabry Middle School and Sprayberry High School from Northeast Cobb also will be involved in the academic competition. Nearly one-third of all schools will be partipating in the 5th annual Reading Bowl, named for a former DeKalb County school media specialist who was looking for a way to motivate the students at her school to read more.
