Grading work is underway at WellStar's new medical campus on Roswell and Providence roads.
Work crews are busy clearing 23 acres of ground for WellStar Health System's East Cobb Health Park. As East Cobb Patch reported in February, WellStar's revised plans for the $73 million, 162,000-square-foot facility call for access on Roswell Road, instead of Providence Road, as was originally proposed. WellStar also included final architectural renderings of the multi-purpose, outpatient complex to an East Cobb ciizens advisory committee in February. While those renderings include planting of several types of trees, any existing trees were cleared across the property as the grading began. Construction is expected to begin in May, with completion scheduled for September 2014.

Roswell Road access plans were presented to a citizens' committee this month; groundbreaking is scheduled for March.
The final presentation by the WellStar Health System for its East Cobb Health Park before next month's groundbreaking has eased some of the major concerns of nearby residents. At an East Cobb citizens advisory committee meeting earlier this month, the Marietta health care provider detailed revised plans that address traffic, density and architectural issues that have marked nearly three years of discussions and haggling. Perhaps the biggest change by WellStar was creating traffic access on Roswell Road instead of Providence Road West, part of the initial proposal which had drawn significant opposition. The size of the $73 million, three-story, general service outpatient facility on 23 acres has been reduced from 205,000 square feet to 162,…

The Kennestone Hospital Authority voted Tuesday to accept land for WellStar's planned facility at Roswell and Providence roads.
WellStar Health System will be able to develop its proposed East Cobb medical complex without going through the Cobb County zoning process. More than two years after first proposing the East Cobb Health Park, WellStar got the approval to proceed with its plans on Tuesday when the Kennestone Hospital Authority voted to accept a grant of 23 acres of land at Roswell Road and Providence Road West. The land will be leased back to WellStar, which intends to build an $80 million, 250,000-square-foot East Cobb Health Park. Among the health care services to be provided would include primary, pediatric, geriatric, women's, urgent and other specialty care, physical rehabilitation, medical imaging and lab services, outpatient surgery and wellness …

The controversial East Cobb Health Park got a crucial endorsement on Monday when it received approval for a key element of the project. The Georgia Department of Community Health has denied Northside Hospital's appeal of a certificate of need for an outpatient surgery center that is included in WellStar's proposed facility on Providence Road near Roswell Road, The Marietta Daily Journal reported. The surgery center is a cornerstone of the $80 million, 205,000-square foot complex that has raised the concerns of neighborhood groups and elected officials for months. In March, WellStar senior vice president and health parks administrator Joe Brywczynski took some heated questions at an East Cobb Civic Association meeting that left some …

True. I'm trying to remain hopefully optimistic about the outcome... trying. Though I also see what you and others are saying. There is commercial property ALL over the place that could be re-purposed. However, my fears about the WellStar are being slightly tempered by some opinions I've heard from AcWorth where a similar complex went in and turned out to be a lovely asset. IDK. Probably being …   more ›
