Matches emailed from an online dating service aren't always what you expect.
Do you believe in love at first sight? When I was a young woman, I really wanted to believe that I would one day meet a man and know instantly that he was meant for me, and only me. As I have gotten older and experienced life, I have come to realize that the perfect man just isn’t out there. I’m not bashing men; I feel it is just as hard for men as women. I think any of us, male or female, would be hard pressed to find a significant other that was absolutely one hundred percent everything we’ve ever dreamed of. It just doesn’t happen that way. After being in a relationship for several years and single for the past few months, I have decided it is time I get a little more serious about dating. My girlfriend Ann talked me into signing up on …

This week’s column is a little deeper than usual. The situation described below was witnessed by both men and women. It was amazing to hear the different viewpoints of men and women watching the same events.
My girlfriends and I arrived at a local hotspot the other evening. A lady we know vaguely was there. She was going through a really tough time in her life. She was there to forget. Guys and girls, I think we all have been in that condition at some point in our lives. She was enjoying herself and having a few drinks. Ann and I shared a meal and a couple of glasses of wine while waiting for Trixie to arrive after a hard day’s work. We noticed our lady friend had made friends with four or five guys who were sitting just above us on the back deck. Trixie arrived and joined us, along with a few of our other friends, two of whom are male. We were all chatting and enjoying ourselves. As the evening progressed, we became aware of the fact that …

Young men and billiards make for a very interesting girls night out.
Two of my girlfriends and I had a “girls night out” this weekend instead of attending a singles group event. We went to a local hotspot to shoot a game of pool and hear live music. My girlfriend and I love to shoot pool. Practice makes perfect, and we're improving with every game. We played billiards while our friend Trixie struck up a conversation with a guy she met. It wasn’t long before two young competitors approached us to play a game. Two men in their twenties asking 40-something women to play pool, hm. I thought I had heard every pick-up line in the book, that is, until Saturday night. I was being hit on by a 24 year old, and I will admit, I was feeling pretty good about it. In between pool shots, I listened to him go on and on …

What's the single scene like in Northeast and East Cobb? Find out in this new, feisty column appearing Tuesday on Northeast Cobb Patch.
Have you ever attended a singles meetup group or event in Northeast or East Cobb? If you haven't, you need to, if for no other reason than to people watch. You'll discover, especially after attending more than once, that there are so many singles unable to find a mate. You see the same faces again and again, mingling aimlessly. What is the deal? My best friend and I attended a singles meet-up group Saturday night, and I kid you not, I felt like I had traveled back in time to “Revenge of the Nerds." It was the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen. Picture the scene: guys wearing pocket protectors, flip-flops and Hawaiian shirts. What’s up with that? I didn’t realize they still made pocket protectors! The guys were flitting around like gold …

eHarmony is one of the most expensive and worst online dating sites that I've used. Despite the tedious completion of the personality test, and management of settings, eHarmony sent me matches that were older and lived farther away than requested. I tweaked settings. I called customer service to ask how I can get better suited matches. There's nothing that can be done. One a lighter note, there …   more ›
