East Cobb Teen Dies in Pedestrian Accident

An East Cobb teenager injured seven months ago in a pedestrian accident on Shallowford Road has died. Cobb Police said Thursday that Darion Elizabeth Hugh-Sam, 18, died on Dec. 21 of injuries sustained when she and a teenage companion were attempting to cross Shallowford Road at Johnson Ferry Road on May 28. Police investigators said Hugh-Sam and Leake were walking against a red pedestrian crosswalk signal around 5:30 p.m. when they were hit by a Honda Accord driven by Evelyn Tauchert, 82, of Marietta. Hugh-Sam was rushed to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in critical condition. Austin Leake, 17, of Decatur, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Tauchert was uninjured.
