The Georgia Department of Natural Resources has issued a ban on open burning from May 1 to Sept. 30. Fifty-four counties in Georgia, including Cobb, are affected. Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services is responsible for the enforcement of this state-issued burning ban in unincorporated Cobb County and the cities of Acworth, Kennesaw and Powder Springs. A portion of a Roswell Road apartment complex was closed off Thursday afternoon as Cobb fire and police officials investigated a possible suicide using potentially hazardous chemicals. Around 1 p.m., maintenance crews at the Jefferson Lakeside complex discovered a dead body, surrounded by an undetermined mix of substances, according to various news reports. Cobb Fire Department spokesman Lt. Dan Dupree was quoted by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in describing the scene as "suicide by hazmat," and that the maintenance workers were being quarantined.
