Cobb School Bus Stop Arm Initiative

Take a closer look at the School Bus Stop Law, the penalties for violating it, statistics on drivers illegally passing school buses and how the CrossingGuard school bus stop arm safety solutions work.

Cobb Police Department staff is conducting Operation Stop Arm and warns all drivers to respect school buses. All traffic in both directions must stop when school buses stop for passengers, except when there is a divided highway of four lanes or more with a median separation. In that case, only traffic following the bus must stop. The Cobb County School District, CPD and American Traffic Solutions recently released a video to help educate the community about the latest student safety initiative. The video explains how the CrossingGuard school bus stop arm safety solutions works. On average, each school bus is illegally passed once every day and, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 20 children under …

East Cobb POV: Tim Langley

Let's Make Cobb County a Tax Haven!

How this can be done without raising property taxes ever again? Read on.

Oh Lord! I'm going to be in trouble with some folks over this one.   Here's what they'll say: "How can we offer the kinds of services the community wants by having lower taxes? We NEED tax revenues to pay for the government we've already got!" Of course, my first reaction is "Well, we've already got more government than we need and can pay for!" BUT, I won't even go there. Let's stick with premise that Cobb Countians actually WANT all the government we're having to rob Peter to pay Paul for. Listen up! If we do this right, we'll never have to sneak another $20 million tax increase hidden in our water bills ever again. In fact, in a few short years we'd be awash with revenue so great even our commissioners won't be able to spend it all. OK…

Cobb Gets 'The Onion' Treatment

The satirical site Friday featured a fictitious story about a "Cobb County Evangelical Hospital" that holds a "Gay Cureness Walk."

Cobb County's been in America's cultural crosshairs before, as Cobb Commission Chairman Tim Lee recalled this week in his re-election battle against Bill Byrne.  On Friday, the satirical newspaper and website The Onion had fun at Cobb's expense in an article and video devoted to the same topic as a nearly 20-year-old episode that Lee referenced -- homosexuality.  In a fictitious story on its website that includes a Marietta dateline, The Onion wrote about efforts by a "Cobb County Evangelical Hospital" that holds an annual "Gay Cureness Walk." The money raised will be used to build a new gayness treatment center at the hospital. The accompanying video "interviews" include a physician at the hospital, as well as a supposedly "cured" gay man…

Anti-Cobb Bias and the ASO

Does week's decision affecting the Walton and Lassiter choruses have its roots in what Tim Lee said about TSPLOST?

Did Tim Lee cause the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus to snub the Walton High School and Lassiter High School choral programs? Why would I ask such a preposterous question? After years of routine inclusion, the ASO Chorus has excluded these two outstanding choral programs. Granted, the ASO has come back and "clarified" its action. Apparently it didn't REALLY mean Walton and Lassiter were not "diverse" enough, it just wants to "include" a school from the inner city.  Still, the original statement is usually the closest to the truth and everything else is spin or CYA. If you've been around long enough, you know of the love/hate relationship between Atlanta proper and its suburban neighbors, especially Cobb County. They love our money and …

By your logic, the American Revolution must have been racially motivated, right? The "candor" for which you've applauded Tim Lee was also apologized for.... by Tim Lee....the next day. Perhaps he didn't hear your applause. Next time, clap louder.   more ›
