The 11th Annual Earth Day Kids Fest (EDKF) co-hosted by the Captain Planet Foundation (CPF) and the Chattahoochee Nature Center (CNC) is Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 10am to 3pm. This year’s theme is “Healthy Kids, Healthy Planet”! EDKF is a highly-motivational action packed and FUN Eco-Festival where kids learn how to become great stewards of the planet we all call home. Rub elbows with environmental superhero Captain Planet, and get a live slice of popular family band Laughing Pizza. We are offering two sessions to best serve our campers from Cobb, Fulton, Cherokee and Forsyth Counties. Ellie Stanley, a Wheeler High School student, recently presented a check to the Chattahoochee Nature Center. She raised $130 by selling 13 of her 4x6 oil pastel and charcoal pencil drawings of animals that the Nature Center takes care of. “I wanted to do something nice for the Chattahoochee Nature Center. I did this because I wanted to give my thanks for giving me alot to learn and becoming a leader," she said. "I thought that fundraising for the Chattahoochee Nature Center would be a great topic for my Senior Project at school. "I chose the Chattahoochee Nature Center because it has been part of my life for three going on four years. The Chattahoochee Nature Center is concluding its Fall Native Plant Sale on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the greenhouse area. Gardeners can select from a wide variety of seasonal plants, including the following: Winter vegetables will be on sale from the center's Unity Garden, and staff also will be available to answer questions. The event does not include admission to the center, which is located at 9135 Willeo Road in Roswell.

Gary Ferguson, author of 18 books on science and nature, will deliver a special presentation today on Atlanta resident John Ripley Forbes, who helped found nearly 200 of the country’s most valued nature preserves, centers and museums. He's the special guest at the Flying Colors Butterfly Festival at the Chattahoochee Nature Center in Roswell, which continues until 3 p.m. today and runs from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. 1. Camp Kingfisher -- The Chattahoochee Nature Center's sessions emphasizing discoveries of the natural world are open for registration. Here's the current availability list, and here is the registration form that can be faxed, mailed or brought to the center. Camp Kingfisher is open to children from kindergarten through the 9th grade. Full-day camps are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and half-day camps are not available due to lack of registration. Camp dates begin on May 31 and last as late as Aug. 12, with a maximum of two weeks for the longest sessions. Costs range from $248 to $950, with a discount tier for CNC members.
