Sandy Plains Team Dedicates Season To Trooper

The Wildcats youth baseball team playing season while honoring memory of Chadwick LeCroy.

The Sandy Plains Wildcats have dedicated their season to slain Georgia Trooper Chad LeCroy and his family by wearing his badge number 744 on their hats and jerseys. LeCroy's 11-year-old brother, Jake LeCroy, is a team member and his father, Bill LeCroy, is a coach. The Wildcats started their baseball season last weekend. "The kids played amazing and have handled all of the extra attention extremely well. Jake hit a homerun on the first pitch he saw of the season. The team finished third after all was said and done," said Wildcats Coach Brian Smith. Aside from playing ball, the Wildcats raised over $2,000 for the Lecroy Family following a Silent Auction held last weekend. In terms of schedule, the Wildcats will be playing in many …

Youth baseball team remembers slain trooper -- The Marietta Daily Journal reports that the 11-Under Sandy Plains Wildcats will dedicate its season to Chad LeCroy, the East Cobb state trooper killed in the line of duty in December. Braves Caravan Comes to East Cobb -- Former East Cobb Baseball standout Jason Heyward and new Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez are the scheduled featured participants at Wednesday's Braves Caravan stop at the Publix at Shallowford, 4401 Shallowford Road, near the Johnson Ferry Road intersection. They'll be there from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.  2. Deal, Barnes Unite for Trooper's Widow -- Gov. Nathan Deal and Roy Barnes, the former governor and Marietta Democrat Deal defeated in November, are joining forces to prompt legislation that would allow Keisha LeCroy, the widow of slain East Cobb state trooper Chadwick LeCroy, to continue receiving state health care benefits.  3. LeCroy Benefit to Take Place in Buckhead

Proceeds from Saturday event will assist the family of slain East Cobb trooper.

A benefit event is scheduled for Saturday in Buckhead to benefit the family of slain Georgia State Patrol Trooper Chadwick LeCroy. The benefit will take place at Kramer's Bar, 3167 Roswell Road, N.E., Atlanta, from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m.  LeCroy, who lived in East Cobb, was shot and killed Dec. 27 while making a traffic stop in Atlanta. An Atlanta man, Gregory Favors, has been charged with his murder.  Earlier this week, LeCroy's widow Keisha met with Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard, who said he intends to seek the death penalty against Favors.

East Cobb Week in Review, Jan. 10-15

Stormy weather, and a few other major headlines.

The scurrying around last weekend in anticipation of Sunday's major winter storm proved not to be overstated Southern panic as the metro Atlanta area and much of Georgia and the Deep South were crippled all week. Nearly half a foot of snow, followed by sleet and freezing rain, forced the cancellation of Cobb schools all week, and Cobb government offices and services were on reduced schedules.  Making recovery efforts worse was the refreezing of icy roads several times during the week, as overnight temperatures dipped into the teens.  Cobb DOT crews struggled to reach residential and surface streets, and some major roads remained hazardous late in the week because none of the county de-icing trucks have scrapers.  Indeed, there were well-…

Caisson Procession Honors Slain Trooper

Fellow law enforcement officers lined up in Marietta to guide Chad LeCroy's body to Roswell Street Baptist Church.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol Caisson Unit carried Georgia Highway Patrol Trooper Chad LeCroy from the Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home on Church Street to Roswell Street Baptist Church this afternoon in Marietta. North Carolina Highway Patrol 1st Sgt. Gary McClelland said two of the horses in today's procession were part of the team that carried President Ronald Reagan's body. The Caisson Unit is ready on 24 hours' notice. The Caisson Unit is a partnership between the North Carolina Trooper's Association and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. It's a horse drawn military wagon that is used to transport a funeral casket. It is also well known for its use at Arlington National Cemetery where it has carried fallen soldiers and former…
