If a professional athlete takes banned substances, the ban should be 2 years. Not a puny 100 gameRead More suspension. 100 Games is not a serious deterrent, though MLB has never been very serious in deterring PEDs. A professional athlete should have to be present for out of competition test and even participate in a biological passport program to determine what is normal for that athlete. 100 Games... 2/3 of a season? Wimps.

It's hard to disagree with you, Christopher, although I do wonder why MLB suspends players forRead More future games in a world where other sports will invalidate your accomplishments if you're found to have been ineligible to play. Reggie Bush had to give up his Heisman, and that's without PEDs; Lance Armstrong lost his Tour de France titles even though he always tested clean (though he did admit to doping years later). And yet the MLB won't consider striking these players' stats even if there's enough evidence to suspend them for future games. If the MLB was serious about cleaning up the game, they'd take away teams' wins when a player is found to be using, and strike that players' records in any and all games he took part in while he was using. And if you think about it, if players (and by extension, their teams) cheat by using PEDs, they're potentially taking away revenue from teams on the up-and-up (when these clean teams don't make the postseason). Cities with franchises (as well as state governments) should be putting pressure on the league to get tough on PED use and hit teams hard when they profit from players cheating to win.

Interesting thought. Extending culpability to the teams would give them 'buy in'. Create peerRead More pressure to play clean. Presently they stand to benefit from a decrease in their payroll when a player is suspended. There is no penalty aside from the loss of talent, so penalizing statistics is an interesting idea. (Especially if the MLB player's Union doesn't 'throw' these guys 'to the wolves'.) I'm curious in regard to USADA's role, or the possibility of a role in creating a PED free professional sports environment. Akin to WADI in Europe. An independent entity which would be employed to reign in PED use. The saddest part of all of this is when an athlete has a stellar day - and immediately becomes a suspect for drug use rather than hard work and determination.

Yes, I think they should have the choice of wearing a helmet when pitching. I think it would makeRead More the game better. As with all other protections they have that make them play better because their not worried so much about certain injuries. For example, it's like a guy wearing a cup. Not so much worry and thought about that area because they know it is protected. I think we should take advantage of our advanced era. We have it, use it to our advantage and for our safety like we do everything else that has advanced.

So let's just ban the game all together as well as any other sport or activity that couldRead More potentially cause injury or accident! Good grief what a ridiculous thing to require and regulate more and more of our lives! If a player choses to do so let them but players of sports are more than aware of potential injury and assume that risk when they choose to participate. The business of sports has become way out of hand across the board. When you watch a game on tv and they are measuring the speed of the ball and it is faster than the speed limit on the expressway it's too fast! Getting the ball to the batter so they can hit it should be the goal does it really need to be thrown at the speed of sound? NO! This would greatly decrease the chance of injury by not making such a big deal about the speed of the ball. Kid's would be a lot better off if they could just play a friendly game of baseball They can't anymore because the adults in their life are grooming them to be pro and always win. Let's face it there can only be so many pro's and not all who want to play are going to produce a win every time if ever. Teach them to be kind to other players, and do their best whether they win or not. Let's get back to the basics and let sports be about fun and not business.
