From Veterans Day to Good Mews Gala

Here's what's coming up in East Cobb this week.

Monday, Nov. 11

The East Cobb Senior Center is honoring veterans on Veterans Day in a celebration lasting from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. 

Ken Myers will lecture on his collection of memorabilia and uniforms spanning the time period from World War I to Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

The event is free, but registration is required.

The Walton PTSA is holding a forum on school funding issues starting at 7 p.m. in the school commons are. 

The special guest is Claire Suggs of the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute, author of the recently-published report, "The Schoolhouse Squeeze," which examines the impact of legislative austerity cuts and the recession on public education in the state.

Tuesday, Nov. 12


The Cobb Board of Commissioners will consider a proposed moratorium on reazoning applications for the continuing care retirement community category in wake of the Isakson Living request for a senior living complex.

The meeting begins at 9 a.m., and the moratorium would continue through April 1, 2014.

Parents at Mountain View Elementary School have organized a town hall meeting to gather support for a reconstruction of the school.

Invited guests are Cobb District 3 Commissioner JoAnn Birrell, Cobb Post 5 Board of Education member David Banks and other elected officials. 

The meeting has been rescheduled from the original Monday date to avoid a conflict with the Walton meeting.

The Walton High School Band is having its Metal and Paint Recycling Day on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.
