As the Holidays Swing Into Full Gear

Hanukah draws to a close as Christmas events fill the calendar, and there's a school funding meeting taking place.

What's going on in East Cobb this week? Mostly, holiday-related events of the Jewish and Christian variety, as well as a school funding meeting in the middle of the week. If we're missing something, please let us know!

Monday, Dec. 2

Aloha to Aging, a caregivers' support group at the Catholic Church of St. Ann, will have its monthly meeting starting at 10:30 a.m. 4608 Lower Roswell Road.

Tuesday, Dec. 3

The Walton High School Orchestra is holding a winter concert at 7 p.m. at the school, featuring the Dorian, Lydian, & Serenade orchestras. 1590 Bill Murdock Road.

Wednesday, Dec. 4

Cobb school officials will educate parents and the community about school funding issues in the district in a panel discussion at East Side Elementary School that begins in the media room at 9:30 a.m. The event is sponsored by the East Cobb County Council of PTAs. 3850 Roswell Road.

Temple Kol Emeth is the host for a Cobb Chanukah Community Celebration on the final day of Chanukah, starting at 6:45 p.m. 1415 Old Canton Road.

Thursday, Dec. 5

Good Mews is holding its annual "Meowiday" gift market at the Unity North Church of Atlanta starting from 6-9 p.m. The work of original artists includes jewelry, artwork, home decor, stationary, pet 
products, and more, and will be sold to benefit the work of the East Cobb cat shelter. 4255 Sandy Plains Road.

Friday, Dec. 6

The 33rd annual Apple Annie Arts and Crafts Show is set for the Catholic Church of St. Ann. Friday's hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday it's from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The show, sponsored by the church's women's guild, features the work of more than 120 artisans and will raise funds for local ministries and charities. 4905 Roswell Road. 

Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church will hold its annual Carols for Christmas Concert, "Somewhere in My Memory." Friday's show is at 7:30 p.m. with a Sunday program at 4:30 p.m. 4385 Lower Roswell Road. 


Saturday, Dec. 7

St. Nick's Cafe is back at The Art Place to entertain children, but seating is available only for the 8:30 a.m. show. 3330 Sandy Plains Road.

Sacred Tapestry UMC's Breakfast with Santa gets underway at 9 a.m., and is family-priced, costing $10 for a family of 4 and $15 for 5 people or more. 

St. Catherine's Episcopal Church is having its annual Christmas Market and Secret Santa Workshop, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to noon. Proceeds benefit the church's youth group. 571 Holt Road.

Sunday, Dec. 8

The Cobb Wind Symphony's holiday concert begins at 3 p.m. at the Lassiter High School concert hall, under the direction of former Lassiter band master Dr. Alfred Watkins. Each donation of $10 entitles a visitor to entry in the drawing for a chance to "Conduct the Band" in one selection on the second half of the program. 2601 Shallowford Road. 

Johnson Ferry Baptist Church begins its holiday celebrations with the Christmas Packages event from 4-7:30 p.m. Festive fun for the family includes carriage rides, music, games, face painting, foods, crafts and more. 955 Johnson Ferry Road.
