200+ Get Free Dental Care

East Cobb's Marietta Family Dental Care exceeds the goal of the Dentistry from the Heart event.

More than 200 people received free dental care Saturday at in East Cobb.

At least 100 people spent the night outside the dental clinic at Lower Roswell and Johnson Ferry roads to be sure they weren’t shut out of the opportunity to get one free service: a cleaning, a filling or an extraction.

The dental practice had guaranteed care for the first 100 adults and had encouraged people to line up as early as midnight to be ready for registration at 4 a.m.

WSB-TV talked to a woman who said she had been there since Friday morning.

Althea and Barry Dillard of Marietta lined up at 7:45 p.m. Friday to get their teeth cleaned the next morning, the Marietta Daily Journal said.

The Dentistry from the Heart event came in response to an economy that remains sluggish, with unemployment in Georgia at 10.2 percent in October, according to the Georgia Department of Labor. The event was similar in intent to a at in August.

Dentists Michael and Azita Mansouri hosted the free clinic at their office in East Cobb and recruited a total of 15 dentists and 60 hygienists and other dental professionals to provide the care, the MDJ reported.

The clinic, including gift bags of dental hygiene products, cost $20,000, all covered by sponsorships, Michael Mansouri told the MDJ.

The goal was to treat at least 150 people, 11Alive reported. The clinic easily exceeded that number, then had to turn people away, WSB-TV said.
