Wheeler's Staley Named All-State

Pope's Andrea Brown and Sprayberry's Neena Carter also have been recognized.

Wheeler High School basketball star Elijah Staley has received second team All-State honors by the AJC.

The junior forward led the Wildcats to the Class AAAAAA semifinals, where they lost to Cobb rival Hillgrove.

It was the best finish to a season for Wheeler since it last won a state championship in 2009.

He's considered one of the top college prospects coming out of Georgia in the next year and has plenty of basketball offers. Staley also is drawing notice on the football field as the Wheeler quarterback.

Two girls high school basketball stars from East Cobb also were recognized on AJC All-State teams, both in Class AAAAA.

Senior Andrea Brown of Pope High School was named to the first team. She led the Lady Greyhounds to a first-round state tournament appearance. She also was the Region 7-AAAAA player of the year.

Named to the Class AAAAA girls second team is senior Neena Carter of Sprayberry, who also helped the Lady Jackets reach the state tournament.
