Wheeler's Mitchell Drawing Interest

The Wildcat basketball star has received a scholarship offer from Memphis; plus this weekend's high school sports preview.

After lifting their record above .500 this week, the boys basketball team is hitting the road for another out-of-state challenge. 

Wheeler is entered in the Wally Keller Classic in Florida and tonight will take on Bishop Verot of Fort Myers, FL. 

On Saturday, the Wildcats will play Lake Wales, FL.

Wheeler's star forward Charles Mitchell is gaining more recruiting interest, as he picked up a scholarship offer last week from the University of Memphis. 

In Tuesday's 82-75 win over Etowah, Mitchell had 17 points. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that a recruiter from Cincinnati was in attendance at Wheeler's Doug Lipscomb Gym.

Last month Maryland coaches came to East Cobb to see Mitchell in action, according to The Baltimore Sun, which reported that the 6-foot-8 senior has not made any official visits. 

The Sun also indicated that other suitors include Georgia, Florida State, Seton Hall, Tennessee, Texas and DePaul. 

In high school hoops action closer to home, the boys and girls teams will play host to starting at 6 p.m. 

On Saturday, the Raiders will play basketball at ; basketball teams are at home Saturday against Villa Rica. 

In swimming, the Walton Raiders will hold Senior Night tonight in a dual meet against at the Cobb Aquatic Center. The competition begins at 6:30. 

And the Pope wrestling team is in Macon today and Saturday for the Georgia High School Association's dual meets

The Greyhounds, ranked No. 1 in Class AAAA and the defending team champions, are coming off in last weekend's dual meets. Their first meet today is against Ware County
