Weekend Pigskin Roundup: Walton, Pope Win

Each Monday we'll take a look at what happened on the gridiron over the weekend in East Cobb Patch.

Walton 31, Etowah 17 – A steady diet of running back Tyren Jones was all needed to get past last year’s Region 5-AAAAA champs on Friday.

"It's the first notch on our belt," said head coach Rocky Hildalgo on Walton's first Region 5-AAAAA win. "This was a huge game, playing against a very good football team in their environment. It's a big win for us." ()

Marietta 29, Wheeler 6 – scored just once on Friday, losing its first Region 5-AAAAA battle of the season on the road. The Wildcats were held to negative yardage in the first half, and accumulated just 127 for the game, according to the Marietta Daily Journal.

Pope 27, Osborne 24 – had to deal with playing without injured quarterback Holland Frost and a 90-minute delay to move to another school to finish the football game – that extended into two overtime periods – because the lights at Osborne High School went out.

Bowdon 47, Walker 21 – Walker had no method for stopping the rushing attack of Bowdon as the Red Devils amassed 468 yards on the ground. The Wolverines knew they would have to play error-free football to beat Bowdon, and that just wasn’t in the cards Friday.
