Weekend Pigskin Roundup: Pope Turns on Afterburners Late

Each Monday we'll take a look at what happened on the gridiron over the weekend in East Cobb Patch.

Pope 38, Kennesaw Mountain 21 – scored four unanswered touchdowns in the second half to come from behind and beat Kennesaw Mountain Friday and move to 2-0 on the season.   

Quarterback Holland Frost rushed for 142 yards and passed for another 227 against Kennesaw Mountain, one week after he torched Wheeler for three passing touchdowns and one rushing score. Frost’s target of the week was Myles Everett, who went over 200 yards receiving and caught three touchdown passes.

Walton 42, Milton 16 – The forced eight Milton turnovers that led to five touchdowns on Friday and a rout of Milton, according to the Marietta Daily Journal. ()

Linebacker Justin Brooks picked up two fumbles and returned one 17 yards for a score.

South Cobb 29, Wheeler 28 – had a 21-point lead in this game before allowing turnovers and mistakes to let it slip away in a loss Friday. The Wildcats watched a freshman soccer player, Carlos Saldana, who had missed multiple times earlier in the game, kick a field goal to beat Wheeler with 2.6 second on the clock.

Calvary Day 25, Walker 14 – Just like last year, Walker fell to Calvary Day in an early-season matchup. This year Walker improved from a 22-point loss to just a 11-point defeat.
