Walton Wins All-Sports Honors

The Raiders finished on top of Class 6A in the Region Directors Cup standings; Pope was third in Class 5A.

For the sixth time, Walton High School is an all-sports champion in the state of Georgia.

With the 2012-13 school year complete, the Raiders athletic program has finished at the top of the Class AAAAAA standings in the Georgia Regions Directors Cup.

The competition is monitored by the Georgia Athletic Directors Association.

Pope High School finished third in the Class AAAAA standings.

Walton collected 1110.5 points, barely edging Brookwood, which had 1108 points, in a Cobb vs. Gwinnett battle.

This season, Walton won Georgia High School Association state championships in girls tennis and volleyball, as the Lady Raiders also topped the girls all-sports standings with 616.5 points.

According to Score Atlanta, Walton earned points in 18 sports, including 100 points for each state title.

In Class AAAAA, Pope earned 1069 points, trailing only McIntosh and Starr's Mill. The Greyhounds won state championships in traditional and duals wrestling and baseball and were state runner-up in softball.

Walton claimed three consecutive Directors Cup titles from 2007-09 as well as 2001-02 and 1999-2000, the inaugural season of the competition. 

Lassiter was 12th in Class AAAAAA with 808.5 points. The Trojans didn't win a state title but the girls swimming team finished second, as did girls lacrosse.

In Class AAAAA, Kell was 16th, as track and field star Kendall Williams added several individual titles to her illustrious career.
