Walton, Wheeler Play Home Openers

Lassiter is at Kell in another East Cobb-area rivalry game on Friday.

When's the last time this was the case?

Wheeler is 2-0 at the start of a football season, and Walton is 0-2.

While both teams are in unusual shape, given their recent history, the season is still quite young.

And for the first time this season, they'll get to play home games.

Wheeler plays host to Langston Hughes (1-1), with kickoff time at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats have rolled over East Cobb rivals Sprayberry and Pope to start the season.

Walton, which has lost to highly-regarded Peachtree Ridge and McEachern, doesn't get a break in the schedule. The Raiders will entertain North Cobb (2-0), No. 4 in Class 6A, in a game that also kicks off at 7:30 p.m.

In the biggest rivalry clash in the East Cobb area, Lassiter (1-1) visits Kell (2-0) at 7:30 p.m. in a game that will be shown live on wsbtv.com

Kell is ranked anywhere from No. 3 to No. 7 in Class 5A, while Lassiter is coming off its first win last week over Sprayberry.

In other games Friday night:

  • Pope (0-2) seeks its first win at Etowah (2-0);
  • Walker (2-0) is at home against Trion (2-0);
  • Sprayberry (0-3) is off.
