Walton-Wheeler Hoop It Up Tonight

The Wildcats are at home with a chance to end the regular season on top of Region 5-AAAAAA.

The high school basketball regular season comes to an end tonight for East Cobb rivals who are having quite different seasons.

The Wheeler boys can clinch the Region 5-AAAAAA regular season crown when it plays host to Walton. The game starts at 7:30 at the Doug Lipscomb Gym.

The Wildcats, who were surprised by Cherokee on Tuesday, are 15-7 and 10-3 in region play, a game ahead of the Warriors, who play Milton on Friday.

On the other hand, Walton is 11-11 and 4-8. Wheeler downed the Raiders 76-73 in overtime earlier this season.

While the Wildcats have their usual complement of players receiving college recruiting attention -- Elijah Staley and Daniel Giddens in particular -- the Raiders are relying heavily on senior guard Rico Overall this season.
