Walton Sweeps Cobb Swim Titles

Both Raiders teams edged Lassiter in Saturday's meet at the Mountain View Aquatic Center.

Walton High School's swimming teams knew their toughest competition in the Cobb County Championships was going to be East Cobb rival Lassiter.

But the Raiders' boys easily outraced the runner-up Trojans by 37 points Saturday in claiming a county title at the Mountain View Aquatic Center.

On the girls' side was the most notable news. Not only did Walton clip Lassiter by 28 points, but the Lady Raiders won their first Cobb title since 2008.

Walton has been the only school other than Lassiter to win the girls' title in the last 14 years.

In the most recent Georgia high school swimming poll, published by Score Atlanta, the Walton boys were third and Lassiter was fourth in Class AAAAAA. On the girls side, Walton is second and Lassiter also fourth.

The Pope girls who finished fourth in the Cobb meet Saturday, are No. 5 in the Class A-AAAA state poll, and the Greyhounds boys are also ranked fifth.

The county meet is the last competition before the Georgia High School Association meet that begins at Georgia Tech on Feb. 8.

The Marietta Daily Journal has more details on the boys and girls events from Saturday's Cobb meet.

I'll be there; rabbi Alper should be good (his You Tube videos are entertaining). CongratulationsRead More to Henry Hene and the Habitat coalition for doing such wonderful work and promoting "We Build to Coexist, We Coexist to Build." Congratulations to Addie and Harvey Schneider -- both are the definition of mensch.

Hurray for the "old school" which just means having a few manners. Ms. Smith alwaysRead More seems to present three facts after what seems to be extensive research. People can disagree without being rude or spouting half truths. I'm glad we still have some ethical and honest people in our midst.
