Walton, Lassiter Scratch Out Wins

After three quarters Friday, Lassiter had just 16 points on the scoreboard. 

Woodstock's defense had something to do with that, along with some injuries for the Trojans. 

But Lassiter, ranked No. 2 in Class AAAAAA, pulled away in the fourth quarter to win 30-7 in a Region 5AAAAAA game. 

Eddie Printz threw for 170 yards and a touchdown, Willie Police scored a touchdown and so did linebacker Patrick Levandoski, on an interception return in the fourth quarter. 

The Trojans (5-0, 2-0) can now turn their full attention toward Friday's clash with Walton on Friday.

The 6th-ranked Raiders (4-1, 2-0) won their Homecoming game 21-7 over Cherokee, as Tyren Jones ran for 180 yards and scored two touchdowns in another Region 5AAAAAA game. 

After the game, Walton coach Rocky Hidalgo was rewewing the "Super Bowl of East Cobb" reference he dropped before last year's regular season meeting with Lassiter. 

“Lassiter and Walton can’t stand each other, so we’re going to go over there and play our tails off and do everything we can to win that game," he said in the Cherokee Tribune.

In another Region 5-AAAAAA game, Wheeler fell in its Homecoming game, as Milton rolled to a 34-13 win. The Wildcats (3-2, 0-2) have lost two games in a row after a strong start. 

Sprayberry also was playing its Homecoming game, and the visitors spoiled it Sequoyah got the game-winning touchdown in the final two minutes in a 41-34 contest. The Yellow Jackets are 1-4 on the season. 

Their two East Cobb rivals in Region 7B-AAAAA rolled to easy victories Friday. Pope got 175 yards rushing and three touchdowns from Ron Woods to crush Cambridge 49-7 as the Greyhounds improved to 3-2. 

The Pope game also was a fundraiser in honor of former football player Matt Hobby, who died in 2006 from Ewing's sarcoma. As The Marietta Daily Journal reported, the fundraising efforts included shirt sales and other efforts throughout the school community.

The Pope Athletics Twitter account posted after the game that $17,200 was raised Friday night for childhood cancer research.

Kell had no trouble with North Springs, winning a 48-0 rout that pushed the Longhorns to 4-1 on the season.
