Walton, Lassiter Renew Rivalry

The "East Cobb Super Bowl" on Friday once again has major region implications.

The "East Cobb Super Bowl" comes back to Walton on Friday.

That's when the Raiders will try to add to their three-game winning streak against Lassiter.

The game, which begins at 7:30 p.m. at Raider Valley and will be aired on Georgia Public Television, also will go a long way toward settling playoff teams from Region 5-AAAAAA.

Last year, Lassiter finally ended a long Walton winning streak in the rivalry, which in 2011 was marked by the Raiders defeating the Trojans twice, including the state playoff semifinals.

Currently, Walton is 3-2 and 2-0 in the region, tied for first with Milton and Etowah.

After a 45-44 loss last week to Woodstock, the Trojans are 2-3 and 1-1 and are tied for fourth.

Wheeler is reeling after losing three straight games and starting quarterback Elijah Staley, who was dismissed from the team this week by coach Mike Collins.

The Wildcats are 2-3 and 0-2 and are playing at home Friday against Roswell, which also is 2-3 and 0-2.

Also on Friday:

  • Kell, ranked No. 3 in Class 5A, is off to a 5-0 start and will open play in Region 7B-AAAAA at home against Riverwood (3-2).
  • In the same region, Pope (1-4) is home against Osborne (2-3) after losing to Cambridge last week.
  • Sprayberry (1-4), also a member of the same region, is off Friday.
  • Walker (3-1) is tied for first in Region 6B-A with a 1-0 record and is at Mount Pisgah Christian.
