Walton, Kell Runners Win State Cross Country Titles

Pope runners also fared well in Saturday's meet in Carrollton.

Two of the individual state champions in high school cross country are from the East Cobb area. 

Avery Bussjager of Walton won the girls Class AAAAAA event on Saturday, while Logan Poteet of Kell claimed the boys title in Class AAAAA.

Ashley Kehoe of Pope finished in third place in the girls Class AAAAA race.

Bussjager ran the 5k race in a time of 19 minutes, 4.20 seconds, nearly 10 seconds ahead of runner-up Mary Jeanne Assinzo of Marietta. 

No other East Cobb runners finished in the top 10, but Walton's Christine Sanders was 33rd with a time of 20 minutes, 25.59 seconds. 

The Walton girls were fourth, finishing behind Peachtree Ridge, Brookwood and Marietta. 

Poteet's winning time was 16 minutes, 131.18 seconds for the 5k distance, as he won by nearly 13 seconds. 

Other top 50 finisher from the East Cobb area was Carlos Quintana of Pope, who was 21st with a time of 17 minutes, 27.87 seconds. 

The Pope boys were 15th in the Class AAAAA team standings. 

Kehoe finished with a time of 19 minutes, 52.27 seconds. Kell's Olivia Terwilliger was 22nd in the Class AAAAA girls individual standings with a time of 20 minutes, 52.78 seconds. 

Brittany Powell of Pope was 42nd, checking in with a time of 21 minutes, 23.36 seconds. 

The Pope girls were 10th in the team standings. 

In the Class AAAAAA boys meet, Walton was 9th in the team standings. Walton's Kenan Farmer finished 11th in the individual race with a time of 16 minutes, 48.96 seconds. 

His teammate, Andrew Singh, was 23rd (17 minutes, 15.02 seconds), while Wheeler's Jason Boone was 47th (17 minutes, 33.92 seconds).
