Walton Girls Win Cross-Country Title

The Lady Raiders dominate the state championships with three runners in the top 10.

won the girls cross-country state AAAAA championship Saturday, led by Alexa Womack’s second-place finish.

It marked the second time in a week that the Lady Raiders won a state title with in second place. On Oct. 29, the Walton volleyball team by beating the Lady Hoyas in five sets.

With three runners in the top 10 and all five scoring runners in the top 17, Walton easily won the cross-country championship in Carrollton with 46 points to Harrison’s 132, according to the results posted on the Georgia High School Association’s website.

After Womack, who finished 3½ seconds behind individual champion Kaylee Isaacs of Harrison in 19:04.76, the Lady Raiders had Kelsey Taylor in seventh, Sara Hardin in 10th, Avery Bussjager in 12th and Christi Sanders in 17th.

Brian Sullivan led the way for the Raiders by finishing fourth in 16:12.22, about 32 second behind the winner, Peachtree Ridge’s Josh Brickell.

Also scoring for Walton were RJ Torres in 15th, Kenan Farmer in 28th, Michael Warrick in 35th and Ryan Humble in 83rd.

Molly Schenck finished second in the AAAA girls race to lead the Lady Greyhounds to 15th place. Also scoring were Jami Joyner in 52nd, Morgan Laushey in 86th, Julia Schamay in 114th and Grace Regitz in 120th.

Pope’s boys finished seventh in their AAAA race. Justin Howell in 30th, Gunnar Stormark in 34th, Steven York in 51st, Kyle Rose in 62nd and Carlos Quintana in 68th scored for the Greyhounds.

At the A level, girls finished 16th, and the boys came in ninth.

Scoring for the boys were David Berrios in 30th, George Litchfield in 31st, Harry Hutchins in 50th, Garry Simpson in 68th and Hayden Salyer in 95th.

For the girls, Afton Nourzad finished 36th, Nicole Cook 82nd, Tia Johnson 116th, Abby Dominy 117th and Mallory Delgado 118th.
