Walton Football Star Hurt in Fight

Running back Tyren Jones will have surgery Monday to repair a broken jaw.

One of Walton High School's most recognized athletes could be a no-show for his college scholarship signing ceremony this week.

According to various news reports this weekend, football standout Tyren Jones suffered a broken jaw in a locker room fight with a teammate on Friday.

Score Atlanta first reported the incident Saturday, and on Sunday The Marietta Daily Journal, citing an anonymous source, confirmed that Jones would have surgery on Monday after his jaw was broken in two places.

Jones, who led the Raiders to the Class AAAAA title game in 2011 and was the top rusher in the state of Georgia as a junior, is expected to sign on Wednesday with BCS national champion Alabama.

The Score Atlanta report, written by Walton graduate Craig Sager II, indicated that if Jones is suspended due to the fight, he might be precluded from any signing day festivities scheduled at the school.

The report said witnesses told Walton administrators that sophomore cornerback Taquar Stewart struck first during the altercation after school on Friday, and that Jones didn't throw any punches.

Jones, who was injured for a good portion of his senior season, gave a verbal commitment to Alabama nearly a year ago.

Also bound for the Crimson Tide is Walton quarterback Parker McLeod, whose final season also was cut short by injuries. Offensive lineman Brandon Kublanow, another top Raiders' recruit, is expected to sign with Georgia on Wednesday.

I'll be there; rabbi Alper should be good (his You Tube videos are entertaining). CongratulationsRead More to Henry Hene and the Habitat coalition for doing such wonderful work and promoting "We Build to Coexist, We Coexist to Build." Congratulations to Addie and Harvey Schneider -- both are the definition of mensch.

Hurray for the "old school" which just means having a few manners. Ms. Smith alwaysRead More seems to present three facts after what seems to be extensive research. People can disagree without being rude or spouting half truths. I'm glad we still have some ethical and honest people in our midst.
