Walton Can't Handle Top-Ranked Milton

The Lady Raiders lose 22-7 in the semifinals of the AAAAA state lacrosse tournament.

went into Tuesday night’s Final Four GHSA AAAAA girls lacrosse tournament matchup at as the fifth-ranked team in the state, but the Lady Eagles showed why they are ranked No. 1 with an overwhelming 22-7 victory. 

Milton, now 18-1-1 on the season, will play Roswell on Saturday for the state championship. Walton ends the season with a record of 16-4.

Walton had no answer for stopping Milton’s high-powered offense, led by sophomore Lydia Cassada's five goals and junior Amanda Lockwood's four.

"The key to the game was how we started. We came out on fire, hitting our first six shots," Milton head coach Tim Godby said.

"They got the first three draws, but we were able to turn them over. We started getting draw possession, and we were just able to do whatever we wanted to do on offense tonight," he said.

Walton's Hannah Single scored the Lady Raiders' first goal of the match early in that Milton onslaught, cutting the Eagle lead to 2-1, but Milton scored the next 11 goals before Maddie Seiloff scored for the Lady Raiders, who trailed 14-2 at halftime.

Milton again jumped out with quick goals in the second half, and much of the Lady Raiders’ scoring came late in the game when the result was not in doubt.

Walton’s Single, Seiloff and Rachel Joseph each finished with two goals, and Chandler Tates scored one.
